The present study aimed to confirm the mediating effect of self-soothing ability and emotional distress tolerance on the relationship between negative affectivity and social anxiety of girls' high school students. The data were collected from 429 girls' high school students, and were analyzed through structural equation modeling. The results of this research are summarizded as follows: First, negative affectivity had significant positive correlations with social anxiety. Second, negative affectivity had significant negative correlations with self-soothing ability. self-soothing ability had significant positive correlations with emotional distress tolerance. and emotional distress tolerance had significant negative correlations with social anxiety. Third, self-soothing ability had significant mediating effects on relations between negative affectivity and emotional distress tolerance. and emotional distress tolerance had significant mediating effects on relations between self-soothing ability and social anxiety. In summary, negative affectivity of girls' high school students had an effect on social anxiety, directly or through the partial mediation of self-soothing ability and emotional distress tolerance. The significance and limitations of the present study and directions for future research were also discussed.

본 연구는 여고생의 부정적 정서와 대인불안과의 관계에서 자기위로능력과 정서적 고통 감내력의 매개효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 여고생 429명으로부터 자료를 수집하였고, 구조방정식 모형을 이용하여 분석하였다. 본 연구를 통해 나타난 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 부정적 정서와 대인불안 간에 유의한 정적 상관이 있었다. 이는 부정적 정서수준이 높을수록 대인불안이 상승됨을 나타낸다. 둘째, 부정적 정서와 자기위로능력은 부적 상관이, 자기위로능력과 정서적 고통 감내력은 정적 상관이, 정서적 고통 감내력과 대인불안은 부적 상관이 있었다. 셋째, 자기위로능력은 부정적 정서와 정서적 고통 감내력 사이에서 매개효과가 유의하였고 정서적 고통 감내력은 자기위로능력과 대인불안 사이에서 매개효과가 유의하였다. 즉, 부정적 정서는 자기위로능력을 매개로 정서적 고통 감내력에 부적 영향을 미치고, 자기위로능력은 정서적 고통 감내력을 매개로 대인불안에 부적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 부정적 정서 수준이 높을수록 자기위로능력이 낮아지고 자기위로능력이 낮아지면 정서적 고통 감내력도 낮아지면서 대인불안이 높아진다는 것을 알 수 있다. 마지막으로 본 연구의 의의 및 제한점과 앞으로의 연구방향이 논의되었다.
