Oh Jung-hee’s Works bring to the foreground the discourse of women’s body were excluded as others in Korean modernity which has developed based on the topic of the enlightening reason. The body explored by Oh Jung-hee is the third one different from the biological body and the symbolical body embodying given meanings, while denying symbolizing and naming. This study presents the term of Corpus-ego in order to explain subject newly appeared on the horizon of postmodernism, go further from the past studies represented by the term of Cogito-ego. Characters of Oh Jung-hee’s works are depicted as ones belonging to the family dominated by the patriarchal order, who in the patriarchal social order who becomes conscious of their states captivated by the symbolic order made by their father. They can sense their biological bodies sharply through feeling like sensuality, pain, pleasure and so on. While sensing the natural bodies belonging to the Imaginary and the symbolical bodies belonging to the Symbolic at the same time, they form their ‘corpus’ positioned at the outside of both worlds. The main characters of Oh Jung-hee’s works are Corpus-egos who become the subjects going with the senses felt through their bodies. Characters in Oh Jung-hee’s works struggles to escape from their traditional status given by the society and achieve their own individual identity in which process they experience the identity crisis similar to the spiritual death. Characters in Oh Jung-hee’s works awaken as Corpus-egos through their wounds in their bodies. In Oh Jung-hee’s works, the motif of the wounded flesh often appears. Characters forms their identity not through the self conscious introspection but through their wounds which expose their insides out. Oh Jung-hee’s works persuade readers to turn their eyes toward the women’s lives which modernity had excluded as the others. The ghostly lives of characters’ in Oh Jung-hee’s works are fulfilled through the process which make the impossibility itself into another way of being, which establish them into the new subjects. The ghostly subjects have potentiality which can break the given world off. Oh Jung-hee’s works present us that our subjects are placed among contradictory worlds in going through the dialectical process.

오정희의 소설은 계몽적 이성이라는 화두를 근간에 두고 전개된 한국의 근대에서 타자로서 배제되었던 여성의 ‘몸’을 전경화시킨다. 오정희가 탐색하는 ‘몸’은 생물학적인 육체와 기존 세계가 부여한 상징적 의미를 체현하고 있는 몸과는 다른, 상징화와 명명을 거부하는 제3의 몸이다. 본 연구는 근대의 인간 또는 주체 관념을 ‘코기토-자아(Cogito-ego)’라는 용어 안에 집약시켰던 과거의 연구에서 한걸음 나아가, 탈근대적 지평에서 새롭게 제시된 주체를 설명하기 위해 ‘코르푸스-자아(Corpus-ego)’라는 용어를 제출한다. 오정희의 소설 속 작중인물들은 주로 가부장적 질서가 지배하는 가족의 일원으로서 아버지가 부여한 상징질서에 포획되어 있음을 자각하는 모습으로 그려진다. 그들은 또한 관능·고통·쾌락 등의 감각을 통해 자신의 생물학적 몸을 예민하게 감지하고 있다. 상상계에 속한 자연적인 육체와 상징계에 속한 상징적 육체를 동시에 감지하면서, 그들은 두 세계의 영역 바깥에 자리한 또 다른 육체, ‘코르푸스’의 존재를 형성해나간다. 오정희 소설의 주인공들은 몸을 경유해 느껴지는 감각을 통해 주체로서 형성되는 코르푸스-자아들이라고 할 수 있다. 오정희의 소설에 등장하는 여성 인물들은 자신에게 주어진 사회적·관습적 위상에서 벗어나 독립적인 자아정체성을 갖기 위해 진력하며 그 과정에서 정신적인 죽음에 육박하는 심각한 정체성 위기를 겪는다. 오정희의 소설에서 인물들이 자신을 코르푸스-자아로서 각성하는 계기는 주로 자신의 육체에 새겨진 상처를 통해서이다. 따라서 그의 소설에는 ‘상처난 살(wounded flesh)’의 모티프가 자주 등장한다. 이들은 자의식적 성찰이 아닌, 상처를 통해 자신의 내면을 바깥으로 드러냄으로써 자신의 정체성을 형성한다. 오정희의 소설은 근대가 배제해온 것, 타자화해 온 대상으로서 여성의 삶에 시선을 돌리도록 독자를 설득한다. 오정희의 소설에 등장하는 인물들의 유령적 삶은 불가능한 모순 한가운데 거주하면서 이러한 불가능성 자체를 또 하나의 존재 방식으로서 스스로 규정하는 과정을 통해 이루어진다. 그것이 바로 오정희의 인물들이 자신을 억압하는 세계 속에서 새로운 주체로서 스스로를 정립하는 계기가 된다. 이러한 유령적 주체는 불가능성 그 자체로 세계 속에 스스로를 삽입함으로써 기존 세계에 균열을 낼 수 있는 잠재적 역량을 지니게 된다. 오정희의 소설은 주체가 이질적이고 상호 모순적인 세계들 사이에 거주하며 끊임없이 자신을 형성해가는 변증법적 과정에 놓여 있음을 보여준다.
