This study aims to investigate the methods of embodying shadows in Kim Soo-young’s poetry. According to Jung, ‘shadow’ is a personality hidden in the human unconscious, which should not be suppressed or hidden, but should be kept in harmony and balance with the conscious. In other words, it is an essential element for physical and mental stability and healthy life. ‘The positiveness of desires’ in Kim Soo-young’s poetry revealed in preceding studies is analyzed as an important base for the formation of a bond of sympathy with readers. In this sense, the researcher focused on the introverted, object-oriented and confessional tendencies of the poetic subjects embodied in Kim Soo-young’s poetry. In concrete, this study examined the significance of embodiment in his works that embodied fundamental human issues, ‘sex’ and ‘disease’ as motifs. In his poetry, even ‘the same object’ is sometimes classified by ‘a different poetic language,’ and even ‘the same poetic language’ implies multiple layers of meaning and forms a poetic tension in order to embody a poetic subject as a being in the boundary between consciousness and the unconscious, that is, in-between. This, in other words, implies the positiveness of the embodiment of shadows, which proves that his poetry aims at the general principle of self-realization. In other words, in Kim Soo-young’s poetry, the shadows of ‘sex’ and ‘disease’ are analyzed as a driving force that cuts across the meanings of ‘negation’ and ‘presence’ and proves the ‘human nature’ and ‘existence’ in depth.

이 논문은 김수영 시에 나타난 ‘그림자(Shadow)’ 형상화 방법을 살펴보는 데 목적이 있다. 융에 따르면 ‘그림자’는 인간의 무의식에 잠재된 인격으로 억압하고 숨겨야 하는 것이 아니라, 의식과의 조화와 균형이 필요하다. 다시 말해 심신의 안정과 건강한 삶을 영위하는데 필수불가결한 요소다. 선행연구에서 김수영의 시가 주로 의식적·사회적 관점에서 논의되었다면 필자는 지금까지 선행연구에서 미흡했던 한 개인의 일상과 의식을 전복하는 성(性)과 병(病)을 모티프로 한 시편을 무의식적·개인적 관점에서 분석했다. 그의 시에 형상화된 내향적·대상지향적·고백체지향적 시적 주체는 무의식 속 ‘그림자’를 형상화하는 데 적극적이다. 특히, ‘성(性)’과 ‘병(病)’을 모티프로 한 작품에서 그들은 의식과 무의식의 경계 즉, 사이의 존재로서 ‘같은 대상’도 ‘다른 시어’로 구분하는 경우가 있으며, ‘같은 시어’도 다양한 층위의 의미를 내포하고 시적 긴장을 형성하는 특징이 있다. 이것은 달리 말해 ‘그림자’ 형상화의 긍정성을 함의하고 있으며, 개성화의 일반적인 원리를 지향하고 있음을 증명한다. 다시 말해 김수영의 시에서 ‘성’과 ‘병’의 ‘그림자’는 ‘부정’과 ‘현존’의 의미를 가로질러 심층적으로 ‘인간의 본성’과 ‘실존’을 증명하는 원동력으로 분석된다.
