Lee’s works have been interpreted in the perspective of anti-Japan or resistant. His political life hindered readers from appreciating his poetic purity. This paper focuses on romanticity of his poems, which has been disregarded from others, and takes a deeper look into the meaning of space structure reflected in his poems. His poetry has autochthonic romanticity that cannot be explained by the romanticism of his age. He symbolized ideal world as “star” for construct utopian socialism that is not here. Lee has spacial consciousness of ‘heterotopias’, which is ‘other space’ that exists in reality, not a utopia, which is an abstract space. Lee, who thought writing poem as a way to realizes ideal. The real obejct of ‘rainbow made of steel’, reflects his ideal practice and self-consciousness.In addition, in his poems are found borrowing of imagism of 1930s, discord with the world which the writers of his age had inherently, and desire of escape such as decadence. This paper overcomes the prejudice on his life that was summed up as resistant, socialist, descendant of a noble family of confucian scholars by devouring his poet in terms of absence of ethicality. This paper intends to unriddle ‘The poet Lee Yook-sa’ dealing him as equals with other poetry group of his age.

이육사는 그동안 ‘항일운동가’, ‘저항시인’의 관점에서 이해되어 왔다. 이육사의 시를 이해하는 데 그의 전기적 삶이 너무 많은 영향을 끼친 나머지 오히려 이육사 시를 본질적으로 해명하는 데 어려움이 있었다. 이에 본고는 그간 간과되어 왔던 이육사 시의 낭만성에 대해 주목하고, 시에서 낭만성이 투영돼 있는 공간 구조를 살핀다. 이육사의 시는 당대 낭만주의로는 설명할 수 없는 자생성이 있다. 물론 이와 같은 자생성은 당대 문인 그룹과 다른 전기적 경험에서 기인한다. 육사는 사회주의 이상 국가를 실현하기 위해 ‘별’로 표상되는 지금 이곳이 아닌 이행된 공간으로서의 이상 세계를 형상화하려 했다. 그리고 그 이상은 관념적 공간인 유토피아에 가 닿아 있는 것이 아니라, 실제 존재하는 ‘다른 공간’ 즉 ‘헤테로토피아’의 공간 의식 속에서 형상화된다. 이육사는 자신의 시작 활동을 이상을 실천하는 행동양식 중 하나로 생각했다. 특히 ‘강철로 된 무지개’와 같은 이상적 공간을 표현한 부분에서도 실제 대상인 ‘금강석’의 정념을 투사하고 있는 것으로 보인다. 다시 말해, 육사는 실존 공간을 통해 새로운 세계에 대한 이상적 실천과 자의식을 투영했다. 뿐만 아니라 1930년대 이미지즘을 차용한 흔적들과 당대 문인들이 내재하고 있던 세계와의 불화, 퇴폐성과 같은 탈주욕망 또한 육사의 시에서 발견할 수 있다. 본고는 당대 윤리성에 대한 자율에서부터 이육사의 시를 탐독함으로써 저항시인, 사회주의자, 명문 유림의 자손으로 요약되는 이육사 시 연구의 전기적 선입견들을 극복하려 한다. 당대 문인 그룹의 시인들과 동등한 입장에서 ‘시인 이육사’를 해명하는 것에 그 의미를 둔다.
