The purpose of this paper is to examine the developmental aspect of Zainichi Korean Literature immediately after the colonial era from the perspective of ‘Zainichi Koreans in Japan’ consciousness through 『Minshu Chosen』, the first general magazine published in Japanese language by a Korean in Japan in 1946. This magazine illustrates the livelihood and mind-set of Korean residents in Japan immediately following the liberation throughout politics, economy, society and culture, and it also expresses an ‘ethnic’ solidarity among literary scholars of Japan, China and Korea. In addition, it has a strong character of ‘literary magazine’ in that it includes many literary works such as 43 novels, 39 poems and 6 plays, as well as articles related to ethnic culture. The aims of 『Minshu Chosen』 at the time of first publication include ‘construction of democratic homeland’ and restoration of values of ‘Korea and Korean distorted’ during the colonial time. However, as Korea culture is introduced in Japanese language, it is difficult to be regarded as to have accomplished the goal of giving proper awareness about ‘Korean’ and ‘Korea culture’ to Japanese people. On the contrary, literary works express ‘Zainichi Koreans in Japan’ consciousness about ‘settlement’ of colonialism and ‘residence in Japan’. ‘Self-criticism’ of literary scholars speaking of ‘settlement’ reveal their aspects as permanent residents of Japan while objectifying ‘Korean ethnic group’. Also, such ‘Zainichi Koreans in Japan’ consciousness of Korean residents in Japan are reflected in various literary works by Kim Dal-Soo, Lee Eun-Jik and Kim Won-Gi.

본고는 1946년에 재일조선인에 의해 일본어로 간행된 최초의 종합잡지 『민주조선』을 통해 식민지 시대를 거친 직후 재일조선인문학이 어떻게 전개되고 있는지 그 양상을, ‘재일(在日)’ 의식의 측면에서 파악하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이 잡지는 정치, 경제, 사회, 문화 등에 걸쳐 해방 직후 재일조선인의 생활상과 사고방식을 담고 있고, 일본과 중국, 조선의 문학자 간의 ‘민족’ 연대감도 표명하고 있다. 그리고 소설 43편, 시 39편, 희곡 6편 등 다수의 문학작품과 문학과 민족문화 관련 기사를 게재하고 있는 점에서 ‘문예잡지’의 성격도 강하다. 『민주조선』은 ‘민주적 조국 건설’과 식민지시기의 ‘왜곡된 조선과 조선인’의 가치관 회복을 창간취지에 담고 있다. 그러나 일본어로 조선 문화를 소개하여 일본인들에게 올바른 ‘조선인’과 ‘조선 문화’ 인식을 심어주려는 목적은 충분히 달성되었고 보기 어렵다. 그에 반해 문학 작품에는 식민지의 ‘청산’과 더불어 ‘일본에서 생활한다’라는 ‘재일’ 의식이 나타나 있다. ‘청산’을 말하는 문학자의 ‘자기비판’에는 ‘조선민족’을 객관화하면서 일본 정주자로서의 면모도 드러난다. 그리고 이러한 재일조선인의 ‘재일’ 의식이 김달수, 이은직, 김원기 등의 여러 문학 작품에 투영된 점을 알 수 있다.
