Since the liberation, the Korean language education in liberal arts college curriculum started as a , transformed into , and now developed into with a variety of forms and contents. Since 2000, writing classes have been required to teach not only communication skills needed in the information and communication age, but also nearly every basic skills required by contemporary society. This study proposes a new method of teaching based on the cases of writing classes in many universities. In so doing, it pays attention to the situation in which Korean language and literature lecturers teach most of the writing classes. In particular, it proposes to (1) link writing classes with reading classes, (2) teach process-based writing, and (3) make use of knowledge about Korean language and literature in various ways. Now, writing classes need to get over the myth of all-purpose education, and search for a more sustainable teaching methods and contents in the longer term. This paper will contribute to the enhancement of writing education in general and the useful application of Korean language and literature experts’ knowledge in particular.

대학에서 교양국어 교과는 해방 이후 <대학 국어>, 혹은 <대학 작문>의 형식을 거쳐 현재 다양한 형식과 내용을 가지는 <글쓰기>에 이르렀다. 2000년 이후 글쓰기는 지식정보화사회에서 요구되는 의사소통능력 뿐 아니라 현대사회에서 필요한 거의 모든 능력을 생산해야 현실 앞에 섰다. 본 연구는 각 대학의 글쓰기 사례를 바탕으로 새로운 방법적 제안을 시도한다. 그 과정에서 국어국문학 전공자들이 실제 교양글쓰기 교육의 대부분을 담당하고 있는 현실에 주목한다. 구체적으로는 글쓰기 교육에 독서 교육을 연계하고 연계, 과정 중심의 글쓰기를 시도하며 국어국문학 전공지식을 다양하게 적용·활용할 것을 제안한다. 이제 글쓰기는 만능의 신화를 벗고, 지속적이고도 장기적인 관점에서의 새로운 교육적 방법과 내용을 모색해야 한다. 그 과정에서 본 논의는 글쓰기 교육의 내실을 더할 뿐 아니라 국어국문학 전공자들의 전공교과 내용들을 유의미하게 활용케 하는 데에 기여할 수 있을 것이다
