The purpose of this study is to look at the meaning of filial piety as perceived by international students from the CIS countries, and to observe the difference between filial piety in Korea and that of their home countries. For this, 5 international students from the CIS countries were selected as research subjects and in-depth interviews were conducted with them from September to November of the year 2015. The interview was based on the Korean consideration of “The favor of the king, the teacher and the father are the same” and analyzed the students’ perception of filial piety categorizing them into country, teacher and parents. The filial piety culture perceived by them was shown as follows. First, as the filial piety for the country, they want to become a bridge and cultivate a talented individual for the development of their country. Also, they want to contribute to making their home country known and help those people who moved to Korea from their countries. Second, as the filial piety for the teacher, they perceive continuously walking the path of a scholar, helping their professor with research, graduating without misadventure and adapting well.. Third, as the filial piety for parents, they perceive living well in Korea, doing something good for parents, inquiring the health of the parents, succeeding, and not receiving financial help from them.. This research was an opportunity to examine filial piety as perceived by international students and is expected to provide baseline data for the education of filial duty in Korea.

본 연구의 목적은 독립국가연합 학생들이 인식하는 효의 의미를 살펴보고, 이들이 인식하는 한국의 효는 자신의 나라와 어떤 차이가 있는지 탐색하고자 한다. 이를 위해 독립국가연합 유학생 5명을 연구대상자로 선정하고 2015년 9월부터 2015년 11월까지 심층인터뷰를 실시하였다. 인터뷰 내용은 한국의 군사부일체에 근거하여 학생들의 효 인식을 국가, 스승, 부모로 유형화하여 분석하였다. 이들이 인식하고 있는 효 문화는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 국가에 대한 효의 의미는 자신이 교량이 되고, 국가발전을 위한 인재를 양성하고 싶어 했다. 또한 모국에 대해 알려주고, 한국으로 이주하는 모국사람들을 도와주고 싶어 했다. 둘째, 스승에 대한 효는 학자의 길을 계속 가는 것과 스승의 연구에 참여하는 것, 무사히 졸업하는 것과 한국사회에 적응하는 것이 스승에 대한 효라고 인식하였다. 셋째, 부모에 대한 효는 한국에서 몸 건강히 지내는 것과 부모가 좋아하는 것 하기, 성공한 모습 보여주기, 경제적으로 독립적인 생활을 하는 것이 부모를 위한 효라고 인식하였다. 이와 같은 연구는 유학생들이 인식하는 효에 대해 살펴보는 기회가 되었으며, 한국의 효 교육에 기초자료가 제공되길 기대한다.
