This paper investigated factors on organization learning by proposing whether organizations learn more from attributing causes of aviation accident internally or externally. Organization learning was measured by a reduction in aviation accident rates. In addition, this paper proposes that the higher visibility of the accident, firms learn more from the aviation errors. Lastly, this research proposes that the more accident attributable to neither one of internal nor external causes which is defined as ambiguous errors, organizations tend to learn more from the aviation errors since ambiguous errors result in profounder search than just a defined cause. The implications of this research for learning theories and work on attribution theories are discussed.

본 논문은 조직이 항공 사고의 요인을 내부로 귀인하는 것 또는 외부로 귀인하는 것으로부터 더 학습 효과를 나타내는지에 대해 연구하였다. 조직 학습은 항공 사고율의 감소로 측정했다. 또한 이 논문에서는 조직은 가시성(visibility)이 높은 사고로부터 더 많이 학습한다는 것을 제시하였다. 마지막으로 이 연구에서는 조직은 애매모호한(ambiguous) 사고, 즉 사고 요인을 내부 또는 외부로 둘 다 귀인 할 수 없는 사고로부터 더 많은 학습 효과를 가진다는 것을 제시하였다. 그 이유로는 애매모호한 사고는 단순한 원인으로부터의 사고보다 더 깊고 넓은 수사를 유발하기 때문이다. 이 연구의 시사점으로 학습 효과 이론(learning theories)과 귀인 이론(attribution theories)이 논의되었다.
