In recent year, the price of imported goods inclined steadily, contributing to accelerating growth of the Korean consumer price index. Some researchers attribute part of these inclines to the growing presence in Korea of imported goods from China. This study documents some of these trend, and examined the direct effect of China on Korean prices. The effect on the CPI from the evolution of Chinese export prices and exchange rate seems to be not significant as it is presumed. Despite the fact that the weight of Chinese imported goods in the Korean CPI is growing, this weight is still too low to allow some pass-through from either changes in Chinese prices or the exchange rate to affect Korean prices. Overall, China's increasing share of Korean imports reduced the Korean total inflation rate by about 0.25 percent points per year during the year even though it still increased Korean prices in absolute term.

최근 들어 수입물가가 지속적으로 상승하고 있고 그로 인해 한국의 소비자물가가 증가하고 있다. 선행연구들은 수입물가가 증가하는 이유를 수출물가가 크게 증가하고 있는 중국으로부터의 수입이 증가했기 때문이라고 설명하고 있다. 본 연구는 중국의 수출물가 및 중국으로부터의 수입현황을 살펴보고 이것이 한국의 소비자 물가에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 분석결과 일반적인 예상과는 달리 중국의 수출물가 상승은 한국의 소비자물가에 큰 영향을 미치지 못했다. 이러한 결과는 환율변동을 고려한 후에도 동일하였다. 결론적으로 볼 때 중국의 수출물가 상승은 한국의 소비자물가 상승의 1.89%를 설명하고 있으나, 중국 이외의 수입 상대국 물가수준에 비해 상대적으로 중국의 물가수준이 낮기 때문에 오히려 한국 소비자물가 상승을 억제하는 효과가 관찰되었다. 즉 중국으로부터의 수입이 다른 수입상대국의 수입으로 대체되었다면 한국의 소비자물가는 관찰치보다 더 큰 폭으로 상승하였을 것으로 판단된다.
