This study compares the poetic world of Heonanseolhun and Ju sook-jin, each of them representing Korea and China’s woman poets. Heonanseolhun, the most well-known woman poet of Korea in China, was first introduced to the mainland China by Ju Ji-bun, an envoy sent to Chosun in 1605, and was compared with past Chinese woman poets such as Ju Sook-jin and I I-an. However, yet, there were no discussions on the differences of the poetic inclination between Heonanseolhun and the past Chinese poets. Though Heonanseolhun and Ju Sook-jin lived in different times and places, they share something in common; they spiritualized the resentment they had to endure while experiencing discord with husband in the period Confucianism was dominant. Examining the differences and similarities of the two woman poets shown on the poetic world has confirmed that the two ladies are reaching the level of satire and complaint though their works are based on both desperate affection and resentment of traditional women. Especially, Ju Sook-jin escapes from the traditional passive image of women and criticized the ideology of Confucian even stronger than Heonan- seolhun, leaving a poem making a mockery of the times. The feature of the poetic inclination of Heonanseolhun is that she sublimated the resentment and sorrow traditional women experienced through Taoist poem and that she pursued Sungye as a place for literary imagination in order to escape from the reality filled with anguish. On the other hand, Ju Sook-jin showed active interest in history and reality through historical lyrics. This is the different literary breakthrough from the pursuit of Sungye by Heonanseolhun. In this study, I estimated that the two woman poets, who was not able to change the reality, recorded the spike of traditional woman literature by sublimating the dissatisfaction of real world to poetry through changing the time and the place.

본고는 전통시대 한․중 두 나라를 대표하는 여류시인인 허난설헌과 주숙진의 시세계를 비교한 글이다. 허난설헌은 한국의 여류시인들 가운데 중국에 가장 널이 알려진 인물로 만력 연간 1605년에 사신으로 조선에 왔던 朱之蕃에 의해 처음으로 대륙에 소개되면서 주숙진과 이이안 등과 같은 중국의 역대 여류문인들과 비교되기 시작했으나 시적 경향의 차이점에 대해서는 구체적으로 논의된 바 없었다. 허난설헌과 주숙진은 비록 시간과 공간을 달리했지만 이런 성리학적 사고가 지배했던 시대를 살면서 남편과의 불화를 겪으며 여성으로서 감내해야만 했던 삶의 한을 시로 승화시켰다는 점에서 공통점을 지닌다. 이들 두 여류문인의 시세계에 드러난 같고 다른 점을 검토해 본 결과, 비슷한 환경에 놓여 있던 허난설헌과 주숙진은 전통시대 여인들의 절절한 정한을 바탕으로 하고 있으면서도 사회에 대한 불만과 풍자에까지 이르고 있는 것을 볼 수 있었다. 특히 주숙진의 경우는 소극적 여심에서 벗어나 시대를 조롱하는 시도 남겼으며 허난설헌보다 성리학적 이데올로기에 대해 한층 더 강하게 비판하고 있는 점을 알 수 있었다. 허난설헌의 시적 경향의 특징은 전통시대 아녀자들이 겪어야했던 규방의 한을 유선시를 통해 승화시켰다는 점이며 이를 통해 문학적 상상 공간으로 선계를 지향함으로써 번민으로 가득한 현실에서 벗어나려는 모습을 확인할 수 있었다. 한편 주숙진의 경우는 허난설헌과 다르게 詠史詩를 통해 역사와 현실에 대한 적극적인 관심을 보여주었다. 주숙진도 성리학적 관념이 지배했던 시대에 여성으로서 감당해야 했던 사회적 제한을 영사시로 승화시켰던 것이다. 주숙진의 이런 시적 지향성은 허난설헌이 보여주는 선계에 대한 지향성과 또 다른 측면에서 문학적 돌파구를 보여주었다는 사실을 알 수 있었다. 본고에서는, 현실을 바꿀 수 없던 그녀들은 시공을 달리해 서로 다른 방법으로 자신이 처한 현실 사회에 대한 불만을 시문학으로 승화시켜 전통시대 여성문학의 極點을 보여주었던 것이라 평가했다.
