In this research, we would like to look at current status of sense of number which higher grades of elementary school students have and seek ways of instructing the sense of number. Firstly, we studied current status of sense of number about fraction and decimal numbers that students and fifth and sixth grades have and tried to analyze the problem of school lessons. After that, based on the results, we tried to develop the program of improving the sense of number with materials in everyday life or experiences. And then, we set our goal as thinking about the lesson plan to apply the program and the ways of applying in the field. As the development direction for the program, we have set five elements of sense of number including (1) activities related to everyday experiences, (2) utilizing rough calculation and mental calculation by providing informal knowledge, (3) establishing the sense of volume of fraction numbers, (4) meaning understanding activities that emphasized understanding and senses, (5) utilizing calculation, and created activity cards and activity papers to input the elements properly. It is expected that the program for improving sense of number will increase instinctive ability on numbers and mathematical understanding and drive interests and confidence in math. Moreover, we hope the ways of properly use for program of improving sense of number is sought at schools to help math study.

본 연구에서는 고학년 학생들의 수 감각 실태를 살펴보고 그에 따른 수 감각 프로그램을 개발해보고자 하였다. 먼저 5, 6학년 학생들의 분수와 소 수에 대한 수 감각 실태를 조사하고 학교 수업의 문제점을 분석하고자 하 였다. 그리고 그 결과를 토대로 실생활 관련 소재 및 체험 위주의 수 감각 향상 프로그램을 개발해 보고자 하였다. 그런 후 개발한 프로그램을 적용 할 수업지도안의 구상 및 현장 적용 방안을 모색하는데 목적을 두었다. 프로그램의 개발 방향은 첫째, 실생활의 경험과 관련짓는 활동, 둘째, 비 형식적 지식의 제공으로 어림셈 및 암산의 활용, 셋째, 분수의 양감형성, 넷째, 이해와 감각을 강조하는 의미이해활동, 다섯째, 계산기의 활용 등의 다섯 가지 수 감각 요소를 선정하고 이 요소들이 적절히 투입되도록 활동 카드와 활동지를 제작하였다. 수 감각 향상 프로그램이 학생들에게 수에 대한 직관적인 능력과 수학적 이해도를 높여주며 수학에 대한 흥미와 자신감을 갖게 해주기를 기대해본 다. 더불어 학교현장에서 수 감각 향상프로그램의 적절한 활용방안을 강구 하여 수학수업에 도움이 되기를 바란다.
