Birth in the first half of twenty centuries, Caodaism is one of indigenous religions in the South of Vietnam. Research on social funtions of Caodaism is one of importance issues, contributed to clearly understand its roles in social context of the South from established. Social function is a concept, or a doctrine which was introduced at the beginning of the twentieth century by sociologists/ anthropologists when talking about social events as institutions of social structures whose functions contribute to social stability and improvement. Social functions of religions such as community cohesion, social control, social structuring are values, norms, feelings of practices in each society. They hold an important function for society by maintaining social cohesion, order and stability, thus bringing mutual benefits to society. From this perspective, studied the social functions of religions, we concluded three major functions of religions that mentioned above.

20 세기 초반에 까오다이교는 남부베트남에서 발흥한 토속 종교 중의 하나이다. 까오다이교의 사회적 기능을 연구하는 것은 매우 중요한 문제 중의 하나이다. 왜냐하면 남부베트남 사회에서 그 역할을 명확하게 이해하는데 큰 도움을 주기 때문이다. 사회적 기능은 20 세기 초반 사회학자와 인류학자들에 의해 도입된 개념인데, 그 때는 사회적인 안정과 발전에 기여하는 기능으로서 사회 구조의 사회제도로서 사회적인 문제들을 거론 할 때였다. 사회 통합, 사회 통제, 사회 조정 같은 종교의 사회적인 기능은 각 사회에서 시행되고 있는 가치, 규범과 의식의 감정이다. 종교의 사회적인 기능은 사회통합, 사회질서, 사회 안정을 유지함으로 사회를 위한 중요한 기능을 담당하고 있다. 그러므로 사회에 상호이익을 초래하기도 한다. 이런 시각으로 종교의 사회적인 기능을 연구하면서 우리는 위에 언급한 종교의 세 가지의 주요 기능을 결론짓는다.
