Korea and Vietnam belong to the same geo-cultural zone, directly influenced by the Chinese civilization; as a result, since the beginning of their nation foundation, they had been influenced by Chinese culture, specially, Confucianism. Thus, we could find out similarities in culture, custom and tradition between the two countries. Nevertheless, these cultural similarities are not identical because thet themselves have transformed in the torrent of up-and-down periods throughout each nation's history to adapt to the geo-graphical features, climate as well as cultural tradition based on the spirit of their own national independence and self-sufficiency. Among the fields of culture, this paper deals with similarities and differences of concepts and customs in the traditional memorial service between the two countries. Through this research, we hope to know each other better and to enlarge the range of mutual understanding in respect of the culture.
