This study introspected and revealed the meanings of the experience that the researcher “I” and the pre-service teachers achieved through the calligraphy lessons. To attain this end, the researcher wrote this article “I” as the subject, and the researcher described the phenomenon of the calligraphy lessons with the pre-service teachers just the way it was. Among the moments of the calligraphy lessons, this study focused on the changes of the pre-service teachers’ mind. This study reflected three important meanings of the experience obtained through the calligraphy lessons. First, the pre-service teachers watched and realized their spirit(神) in the calligraphy lessons. Spirit(神), that is, self-realization of the changes heart and mind. This showed what we should look for in the calligraphy lessons and the meanings of the existence of the art and the calligraphy education. Secondly, the pre-service teachers educated themselves and grew their mind through calligraphy. They could be able to grow their mind through the process of the repeated writing individual letters wholeheartedly. This showed that the calligraphy class has values in shaping minds ideally. Third, the work of revealing the intrinsic value of the calligraphy education could provide a new reinterpretation of the calligraphy education. This changes the traditional formalized calligraphy education activities and ideas. Thus, the calligraphy lessons provided “I” and the pre-service teachers chances to grow minds. Also the students could be aware of the artistic values what calligrapher possess and it became their meaningful experience in terms of a reinterpretation of the calligraphy education.

본 연구는 연구자 “나”와 예비교사의 첫 서예수업 경험을 통해 그 경험의 의미를 발견하고 성찰한다. 이를 위해 연구자는 예비교사들과 함께 한 서예수업의 현상을 있는 그대로 “나”가 주체가 되어 글쓰기로 따라가 보았다. 그 중에서도 예비교사들의 마음이 서예수업을 통해 어떻게 변화되는가를 살펴보았다. 그리고 서예수업 경험이 갖는 의미를 성찰하게 되었는데 첫째, 예비교사들은 서예수업에서 자신의 신(神)을 바라보고 깨달았다. 즉 서예를 통한 마음과 정신의 변화를 스스로 깨달은 것이다. 이는 우리가 서예수업에서 무엇을 중요하게 바라보아야 하는지와 미술과 서예교육의 존재 의미를 보여준다. 둘째, 예비교사들은 서예를 통해 마음을 성장시키고 자기 스스로를 교육하였다. 서제를 정성껏 반복하여 쓰는 경험적 과정으로 마음을 성장시킨 것이다. 이는 서예수업이 우리의 마음을 이상적으로 형상화시키는 가치성이 있음을 보여준다. 셋째, 서예교육의 내재적 가치를 드러냄으로서 서예교육을 새롭게 재해석하였다. 이에 기존의 정형화된 서예교육 활동과 관념들이 변화될 수 있다. 그리하여 “나”와 예비교사의 첫 서예수업은 마음을 성장시킨 시간이며, 서예가 가지는 예술성과 가치를 깨닫는, 서예교육을 재해석하는 의미 있는 경험인 것이다.
