This study analyzed the dance works for each type by presenting the concept of stage space called “extension stage”. Categories of Extension stage: unfinished space, internal space, external space, urban space and natural space. The selected works of each space are as follows: “Untitled” of Jeong Sik Roh and Nak Hyun Kang for unfinished space, “Turning Museum Inside Out” of LDP Dance Team for internal space, “Roof Piece” of Trisha Brown for external space, “Riding on the Bottom of Silgaecheon Stream” of Ho Wool Back for urban space and “Regular Performance - Seokjeonangmu Performance” of Hak Seon Im for natural space. In regard to the analysis process, this study analyzed the contents of the works and the space utilization and effects thereof. Moreover, this study analyzed their role as a stage as well as the communication method with audiences. That is, this study analyzed the dance performance works that leveraged an extension stage. The findings of the analysis are as follows. First, a new space utilized. Second, these dance works had a unique communication method with the audiences. Indeed, the performers and audiences in these dance works escaped from their conventional space (stage and seats) to communicate with each other in a multidirectional manner. Lastly, this study found that these dance works were formulating a new concept for extension stage.

본 연구에서는 ‘확장무대’라는 무대 공간 개념을 제시하여 무용작품을 분석하였다. 확장무대의 유형을 총 다섯 가 지로 분류하였다. 미완성 공간⟨내부공간⟨외부공간⟨도시공간⟨자연공간으로 단계별 형태를 이룬다. 이러한 유형 별 무용작품을 선정하기 위해 범위는 확장무대 개념에서 공간별 유형으로, 공간별 유형에서 작품으로 좁혀가며 사 례선정의 기준을 세웠다. 선정된 작품들은 미완성 공간의 노정식 , 강낙현 ｢Untitled｣, 내부공간의 LDP무용단 ｢미 술관, 속을 뒤집다｣, 외부공간의 트리샤 브라운(Trisha Brown) ｢Roof Piece｣, 도시공간의 백호울 ｢실개천거리 바닥 을 타고｣, 자연공간의 임학선 ｢상시공연－석전악무 공연｣이다. 분석과정은 작품 내용, 공간 활용도와 효과, 무대로 서의 역할, 관객과의 소통방식을 분석하였다. 이러한 과정을 통해 확장무대 개념을 기초로 한 무용공연의 작품분 석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫 번째로 무대가 아닌 새로운 공간을 활용하여 작품과의 연결고리 극대화, 두 번째로 공 연자와 관객의 다방향성 소통방식, 마지막으로 무대가 확장되는 모습의 개념을 새롭게 정립해 나가고 있다는 것을 도출할 수 있었다.
