This paper gives a brief review of the development of oral history as a research field in Taiwan. On the basis of ‘1953-2009’, published in 2009 by the Institute of Taiwanese History, Academia Sinica, we lay out the research outcomes, several characteristics and some current problems in this field. Secondly, we discuss several characteristics in Taiwan in accordance with the theme of ‘The life and oral history of people living in cross-border’. Interviewees with cross-border experience in the beginning were basically ‘mainlanders’. However, since the martial law in Taiwan was lifted in the late 1980s, and since the policy in Taiwan was oriented toward localized development, Taiwanese with overseas experience has also become an important source of the oral history interviews. Major topics include: 1. The overseas army experience of Taiwanese, also called ‘Taiwanese-Japanese soldiers’. 2. ‘Taiwan juvenile labor’ in Kouza, Kanagawa Prefecture of Japan, with its total number of workers up to 8,000. 3. Interviews with Taiwanese who had been overseas, China and south-east Asia particularly, in the period of Japanese colony. 4. Postwar overseas experiences of Taiwanese, particularly focused on people dedicated to the Taiwanese independent movement in the United States and Japan. 5. Interviewing and tracing the ‘Hakka’ overseas.

이 글에서는 먼저 구술사연구가 대만에서 한 개 영역으로 발전해 왔던 행정을 회고해 보았고 2009년 중앙연구원 대만사연구소에서 편집, 출판한 󰡔대만구술역사목록편람 1953-2009󰡕를 토대로 대만구술사연구에서 취득한 성과와 그에 따른 몇 가지특색, 그리고 당면하고 있는 문제점들을 지적하였다. 다음으로 한국구술사학회 하계학술대회의 주제인 ‘과경 경험 있는 자의 생활세계와 구술사’를 감안하여 대만의 구술사연구의 몇 가지 특색을 논술하였다. 초기 ‘과경경험이 있는 자’에 대한 인터뷰는 기본상에서 ‘외성인’을 주요대상으로진행하였다. 1980년대 말 대만정치가 해빙되고 대만의 중국화정책이 ‘본토화’로 발전된 후 대만인의 해외경험도 중요한 인터뷰 대상자로 되었다. 주요내용은 다음과 같다. 1. 대만인의 종군경험, 이른바 ‘원대만인 일본병’의 해외 경험이다. 2. 일본 카나가와겐코우자에서 노동에 종사했던 8천여 명의 ‘대만소년노동자‘들이다. 3. 일본치하시기해외 특히 중국과 동남아로 진출한 대만인의 인터뷰이다. 4. 전후 대만인의 해외 경험, 특별히 미국, 일본의 대만독립운동종사자들에 대한 인터뷰이다. 5. 해외 ‘커쟈’인에 대한 추적 및 인터뷰이다.
