The aim of this study is to identify the causes of martyrdom of Matthew Lee Yoon-ha family in Joseon Dynasty. This thesis clarified the Catholic lives of his three children, and assigned them to the holy commitment to martyrdom. The Lee family were previously interested in Catholicism with the Western Learning before Lee Yoon-ha’s inauguration of the acceptance of it as his religion. This research confirmed that Lee Yoon-ha could fulfill the religious life in his family members to inherit it as their family treasure, so his posterity proved it for their martyrdom at last. In addition, this study analyzed that the family succeeded in extending the filial piety, fraternity and family affection. Their faithfulness was based on the generosity with the tenderness as well as the transcendent unity of each member of the family. This research noted that their religious life mainly accompanied by the prayers, which made them to rely on Holy Mother. Thus, the faithful daily life of the family led them to the authentic Catholicism, and encouraged their martyrdom to overcome the persecution with the hope of the afterlife. And this research investigated both the practices and the characteristics of their religious lives, which guided Lee Yoon-ha family toward the martyrdom. This paper pointed out that the practical education to the family members came from the books of Catholicism in Chinese. This thesis sustained that the Catholic education in the family provided the children with the human dignity and equality. This family education could put the faith, hope, and love in their daily lives. This paper also consented that their resolutions over the fear of the death penalty originated in their faith, hope and love of Lee Kyoung-doh brothers that were armed with the Catholic fidelity. And this research analyzed their awareness of the martyrdom as the “Understanding of the Jesus Crucifixion” hrough the religious manifestation of Lee Kyoung-doh brothers. This study found that their recognition and passion for the eternal life rooted in the authentic observance of it through their family life. We approved that they met God in person by their notes for martyrdom as the invitation from Heaven. The passion and the prospect toward the eternal world inspired them to decide not to flee from but to face against the harsh persecution. And this paper continued to compare their “Understanding of the Jesus Crucifixion” with their knowledge of martyrdom. Their affirmation of it accelerated them to accept “the Jesus Crucifixion” for their own ends. They endeavored to represent the Love in their family life, and identified their severities of the persecution with the Jesus Suffering on the Cross. It was concluded that the Lee Yoon-ha’s faithful life convinced his family members of the holy death : Thus, they could have courage enough to face and fight against the persecution. The exemplar from their religious sincerity as the filial practice would be helpful to seek the appropriate solution for the domestic conflicts between parents and children in recent days.

이 논문은 박해시대 이윤하 가족의 신앙생활을 중심으로 순교를 결행했던 이들의 그 동인(動因)을 밝히고자 했다. 이를 위해서 이윤하 집안과 순교한 세 자녀의 삶과 신앙을 확인했고, 가족의 신앙생활이 순교에 미친 영향을 순교 동인 중의 하나로 주목했다. 그리하여 이윤하 집안은 이전 세대부터 서학에 대한 관심을 가지고 있었고, 이러한 분위기가 서학에 대한 개방적인 학풍으로 이어졌으며, 마침내 이윤하를 시작으로 서학을 신앙으로 수용하게 되었음을 살펴보았다. 그리고 이윤하는 가족 안에서 천주교 신앙생활을 실천했고, 이는 이윤하가 선종한 후에도 꾸준히 지켜나갔으며, 박해 때에는 이윤하의 세 자녀가 순교를 결행하는 동인이 되었음을 확인했다. 또한 이윤하 가족은 신앙생활을 통해 가족 구성원들에게 미친 영향으로 효성과 우애를 강화시켰고, 가족애를 확고하게 드러냈음을 분석했다. 그리고 가족의 신앙실천은 가족에 대한 배려의 마음과 시공간을 초월한 가족 연대감을 드러내고 있음을 확인했다. 이러한 삶은 기도가 중심이 되었으며, 성모님에 대한 믿음을 확고하게 다져주는 발판이 되었음을 고찰했다. 그리하여 가족의 신앙생활은 참된 신앙인으로 살아갈 수 있는 원동력이 되었고, 박해 상황에서는 영원한 삶에 대한 희망을 간직하면서 순교의 길로 나아갈 수 있었음을 살펴보았다. 이어서 이윤하 가족의 신앙생활을 통해 가정 안에서 신앙실천이 순교의 삶으로 나아갈 수 있도록 이끌어 준 신앙특성을 분석했다. 그중에 서학서가 중요한 영향을 미친 사실을 살펴보았다. 이는 가정 안에서 신앙 교육을 통해 전수된 인간의 존엄성과 평등사상이 의식 형성에 중요한 변화를 주었음을 확인했다. 이러한 삶은 믿음·희망·사랑의 삶으로 드러남을 고찰했다. 그리하여 이경도 형제의 신앙특성에서 나타난 믿음과 희망과 사랑의 삶이 박해 앞에서도 죽음에 대한 두려움을 넘어설 수 있는 동기로 작용했음을 확인했다. 그리고 이경도 형제에게서 드러난 신앙특성으로 순교 인식과‘ 예수의 십자가 사건에 대한 이해’를 분석했다. 그리하여 이경도 형제에게서 드러난 순교 인식과 그에 따른 열망은 가족의 신앙생활에서 나왔음을 살펴보았다. 그리하여 이러한 순교 인식을 통해 매 순간 하느님에 대한 분명한 개념 인식을 갖게 했고, 순교를 하느님의 부르심으로 받아들였음을 확인했다. 그리하여 이들이 가진 순교 열망이 박해 상황에서 순교 결행의 원천이 되었음을 고찰했다. 또한 이윤하 가족이 보여준 순교 인식은 ‘예수의 십자가 사건에 대한 이해’와 연결되었음을 살펴보았다. 그리하여 그들은 순교에 대한 열망만큼이나 ‘예수의 십자가 사건’을 자신의 삶으로 받아들였음을 확인했다. 그리고 이들은 가정 안에서 꾸준히 신앙실천을 하면서 예수의 삶을 닮고자 했고, 박해 당시에는 십자가에서 수난 받는 예수의 모습을 떠올리며 자신이 겪는 박해와 고통받는 예수의 모습을 동일시했음을 고찰했다. 그러므로 박해시대 이윤하 가족의 신앙생활은 박해 시대에 죽음을 의연하게 받아들일 수 있었고, 마침내 순교의 길을 걸을 수 있었다. 이러한 모범을 통해 가족 안에서 충실한 신앙생활과 가정 안에서 꾸준한 신앙실천이 오늘날 심각하게 대두되는 가정 문제 해결에 중요한 방향점을 제공할 것이라 생각한다.
