The purpose of this research is to investigate the factors of residents’ perceptioncompliance with law and draw the policy implications in South Korea. The current study conducted a survey of residents in the country from January to February 2015 and analyzed collected data employing a random sampling. The findings indicated that residents who have perceived on community policing were more likely to perceive police legitimacy. The findings, furthermore, showed that residents who have perceived on police legitimacy were more likely to comply with law. Community policing variable, however, was not a statistically significant predictor for compliance with law. Nonetheless, the findings, when controlling for other variables, showed that residents who have perceived on community policing were more likely to comply with law through enhancing police legitimacy in consequences. The policy implications for enhancing residents’ compliance with law and the limitations of the current research were discussed at the last part of this study.

이 연구의 목적은 한국에 거주하는 지역주민의 법준수 인식에 미치는 영향요인을 밝히고 정책적 시사점을 도출하기 위한 것이다. 2015년 1월부터 2월까지 약 한달 동안 전국의 시민을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 자료를 수집하였다. 분석결과, 지역주민의 지역사회 경찰활동에 대한 인식이 높을수록 경찰에 대한 정당성 인식이 증가하는 결과가 나타났으며, 지역주민의 경찰에 대한 정당성 인식 또한 법준수 인식에 통계적으로 유의미하게 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나, 지역사회 경찰활동에 대한 인식 여부는 지역주민으로 하여금 법을 준수하고자 하는 인식에는 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 다른 변수를 통제했을 때, 지역주민의 지역사회 경찰활동에 대한 인식이 높아질수록 경찰에 대한 정당성이 확립되어 결과적으로는 법을 준수하고자 하는 인식도 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 끝으로 시민의 법준수 인식 제고를 위한 정책적 제언과 이 연구의 한계에 대해서 논의하였다.
