Holistic education emphasizes self-directed learning as the subject of learning. The direction for Holistic education is fostering student with accurate consciousness like positive self-concept, self-awareness, self-efficacy, and self-esteem and expressing individual's potential through promoting career awareness. The purpose of this study is to explore the structural relationship of self-directed learning with student’s ‘the health and consciousness’, ‘the career awareness’, and ‘the morale and enthusiasm’ of teachers. Based on the analysis of second year of Gyenggi longitudinal study data, ‘the health and consciousness’ , ‘the morale and enthusiasm’ of the teachers and ‘the career awareness’ was found to have a positive effect on students’ self-direct learning after all. Specifically, for middle school students, the case of health and consciousness and ‘the career awareness’ made significant effect on student’s self-directed learning. However, ‘the morale and enthusiasm’ of teachers did not show a statistically significant result, except in case of ‘the career awareness’ as being the parameter. On the other hand, for high school students, the case of ‘health and consciousness’ and ‘the career awareness’ showed, a meaningful impact on ‘the self-directed learning’, both directly and indirectly, with ‘the career awareness’ as being the parameter. These results implicate to us that the features of ‘health and consciousness’ would be the key factors to make influence on the student’s ‘career awareness’ and their ‘self-directed learning’ as well. Thus, it is vital to develop educational activities which are intended to train students' self-efficacy, self-esteem, awareness and responsible citizenship. Also, based on the result of the weak relationship between teacher’s morale and enthusiasm’ on middle student’s ‘self-directed learning’, it is necessary to analyze the factors of the result and grope different ways to improve the situation in view of educational aspects.

홀리스틱 교육에서는 학습의 주체로서 자기주도적인 학습을 강조한다. 긍정적인 자아개념과 자아인식을 가진 학생의 육성, 자기효능감, 자아존중감, 시민의식 등 올바른 의식의 함양과 진로의식을 통해 개개인의 성장가능성을 최대로 발현될 수 있도록 하는 것은 홀리스틱 교육이 추구하는 방향이다. 이와 관련하여 이 연구에서는 경기교육종단연구 2차년도 데이터를 사용하여 경기도 내 중·고등학생을 대상으로 학생들의 건강 및 의식, 교사들의 사기, 진로의식, 그리고 자기주도학습 간의 구조적 관계를 규명하고자 수행되었다. 분석결과 중·고등학생 전체적으로 ‘건강 및 의식’, ‘교사들의 사기 및 열의’, 그리고 ‘진로의식’은 학생들의 자기주도학습에 긍정적인 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 여기서 건강 및 의식은 시민의식, 자아개념, 자아존중감, 자기효능감, 성장신념을 하위요인으로 하여 분석하였으며, 진로의식은 진로계획성, 직업태도, 진로자기이해의 세 가지 요인으로 분석하였다. 중학생과 고등학생을 구별하여 살펴보면, 중학생의 경우는 ‘건강 및 의식’ 과 ‘진로의식’은 ‘자기주도학습’에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 반면에, ‘교사의 사기 및 열의’는 유의미한 결과가 나타나지 않았다. 그러나 ‘진로의식’을 매개로 하였을 때는 ‘교사의 사기 및 열의’가 ‘자기주도학습’에 긍정적인 효과를 나타냈다. 한편 고등학생의 경우에는 ‘건강과 의식’, ‘교사의 사기 및 열의’가 ‘진로의식’을 매개변인으로 하여 직·간접적으로 ‘자기주도학습’에 유의미한 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 결과는 학생의 ‘건강 및 의식’이 ‘진로의식’ 영역뿐만 아니라, ‘자기주도학습’의 측면에서도 중요한 영향을 미치는 핵심요인임을 보여 주는 것으로서, 학생들의 자기효능감과 자아존중감, 시민의식 등올 바른 의식과 책임감을 길러 줄 수 있도록 교육 활동적 측면에서 고려할 필요가 있음을 시사한다. 또한 ‘교사의 사기 및 열의’가 ‘자기주도학습’에 미치는 영향이 중학생에게는 미미한 점으로 미루어 보아, ‘교사 사기 및 열의’와 ‘자기주도학습’ 관계에 있어서 중학생을 대상으로 한 상관 미약 요인을 밝히고 이에 대한 개선방안을 모색할 필요가 있다.
