Both Black Flower written by Kim Young-ha in 2003 and The Republic of Dreams by Nelida Pinõn in 1984 are the stories of the characters who have immigrated to American continent for the purpose of economic success in the early 20th century. In spite of the many differences both in the contents and the forms of the two novels, we can observe how nation can function as a space of holding memories and is involving in “the activities of remembering”, which are essential for the process of forming identity of individual. Furthermore, we can see that literature can be the place where the memories, which are omitted by history, can be held and lead us to have our own process of forming identity more delicately.

Ambos os romances, Flor Negra do Kim Young-ha pulicado em 2003 e A república dos Sonhos da Nelida Pinõn lançado em 1984, tratam das histórias das personagens que imigraram para o continente América por motivo ecomômico no começo do século XX. Apesar das diferenças em conteúdo e forma, ambas as obras nos dão a oportunidade de observar como uma nação pode funcionar como um espaço de aguardar memórias e se envolver nas “atividades de lembrar” que são essenciais no processo de formar a identidade do indivíduo. Além disso, podemos ver que a literatura pode ser um espaço onde as memórias que foram omitidas pela história podem ser sustendadas e nos lidera para ter nosso próprio processo de formar a identidade mais delicadamente.
