Jeon Bong-geon’s serial poem “6·25” depicts the stark reality of Jeon Bong-geon’s dramatic experience of war, and are the poet’s ambitious works. Taking the center of Korean War serial poems is the repetition technique, and previous studies indicated that the overwhelming repetition lowered the perfection level of the poems. But this overwhelming repetition is understood as intended by the poet to describe the myriads of deaths, occurring across Korean Peninsula. In addition, in order to depict the horrible situation of the war hitting the entire Korean Peninsula, the serial poems involved a kind of narrativity, and this depiction takes not the novel’s four composition stages – introduction, development, turn, and conclusion – but a similar pattern of the drama’s five stages - introduction, development, turn, conclusion, and finale. This paper examined the characteristics of the narration stage shown in various parts of the serial poems, using Freytag’s drama structure analysis technique. Korean War serial poems use the repetitive progress and stoppage, advance the narration, and create poetic meaning. In the beginning stage where the tension of war is presented, the poetic form is repeated, and musical order is unfolded, presaging the prewar order, and the war development stage illustrates the formal order shown in the beginning stage, illustrating the deaths and destructions spreading across Korean Peninsula. The climax stage reintroduces repetition, repeats “dying a death beyond death,” depicting the overwhelming deaths gripping Korean Peninsula. The conclusion stage repeats the images of ruins and smoke, illustrating the atrocities of war hitting Korean Peninsula. As such, Jeon Bong-geon’s serial poem “6·25” uses the repetition of progress and stoppage in order to illustrate the development of war borrowing the narration structure.

전봉건의 「6·25」 연작은 전봉건 시의 원체험인 전쟁체험을 전면적으로 그려내고, 그것을 정리하려는 시인의 야심찬 시적 기획이다. 「6·25」 연작의 핵심에는 반복 기법이 자리 잡고 있는데, 기존의 연구에서는 그 반복의 과잉 상태가 시의 완성도를 떨어트리는 요인으로 지적되어 왔다. 그러나 이 반복의 과잉은 한반도 전체에서 동시적으로 일어난 무수한 죽음들을 그리기 위한 시인의 의도로 이해되어야 한다. 또한 이 한반도 전체에서 일어난 전쟁의 진행상황을 그리기 위해 연작에서는 모종의 서사성이 드러나게 되는데, 그것은 소설의 기승전결식 4단 구성보다는 발단-전개-절정-하강-대단원의 5단계를 이루는 희곡의 구성 단계와 유사한 양상을 나타낸다. 이 글에서는 프라이탁의 희곡 구조 분석을 빌려 연작의 각 부분에서 나타나는 서사 단계의 특성을 살펴보았다. 「6·25」 연작은 반복의 진행과 정지를 통해 서사를 진행시키고 시적 의미를 창출해낸다. 전쟁의 긴장이 제시되는 발단부에서는 시형을 반복시키며 음악적 질서를 전개함으로써 전쟁이 시작되기 전의 질서 상태를 암시하고, 전쟁이 시작되는 전개부에서는 발단부에서 나타난 형식적 질서가 형해화되는 모습을 그림으로써 한반도에 퍼져가는 죽음과 파괴의 모습을 형상화한다. 절정부에서는 반복이 다시 등장하는데, 여기서는 ‘죽음 밖의 죽음을 죽었다’는 구절을 반복함으로써 한반도를 뒤덮은 죽음의 과잉 상태를 그린다. 하강부는 폐허와 연기 이미지의 반복을 통해 전쟁의 참화가 지나간 한반도의 모습을 형상화한다. 이처럼 전봉건의 「6·25」 연작은 전쟁의 전개를 서사적 구조를 빌려 형상화하기 위해 반복의 진행과 정지를 활용하고 있음을 알 수 있다.
