This study aims to show the real state of Geumho and Dongho lending libraries account book. And the understanding of the it’s reality shoud enable to recognize the characteristic of Geumho and Dongho lending library. At the lending library account book, the title of lending books, checkout dates, borroews' names and address, pawned items are recored. Geumho and Dongho are the outskirts of Seoul, near the Han River. There are considerable people in late Joseon period, for that reason, lending library would be founded. In the same time, Hyangmok-dong lending library is operating actively in the gate of Seoul. These two lending library, in and out the gate of Seoul, are very different from each other in many points. For example, in the point of the method of record, Geumho and Dongho lending library account book is recorded in sequence of date, but Hyangmok-dong account book is recorded for each work. Above this, There are the record or unrecord of borrower’s address and pawned items, the full-length novel’s rate of all lending books, etc. in such differences, it is most important that there is not a equality of volume in the same work. For example, Geumho lending library’s Namjeongpalnangi has 19 volumes, but Hyangmok-dong’s Namjeong- palnangi has 14 volumes. Dongho lending library’s Changseongamuirok has 12 volumes, but Hyangmok-dong’s Changseongamuirok has 10 volumes. In this study we can understand that there are differences of characteristic between in and out of Seoul, or big scale shop and small scale shop. I think the study on the lending library account book is not enough to conclude, so higher organization and synthesize are definitely needed.

이 논문은 그 동안 향목동 세책 대출장부에 가려 자세하게 연구되지 못했던 금호 세책 대출장부와 동호 세책 대출장부의 실상을 충실히 밝히고 이 두 지역의 세책집에서 어떤 방식으로 세책업을 했는가를 살펴보고자 한 글이다. 금호 세책 대출장부는 이화여대 소장 <수호지>와 <숙향전>에서 17장 230여 건을 수습할 수 있었고, 동호 세책 대출장부는 연세대 소장 <현씨양웅쌍린기>에서 19장 290여 건을 정리할 수 있었다. 이 대출기록들을 통하여 금호와 동호의 세책집에서 날짜별 대출장부를 사용했으며 대출자의 거주지를 기록하지 않았고, 담보물도 받지 않는 방식으로 영업을 했다는 사실을 알 수 있었다. 또한 금호 세책으로 49종, 동호 세책으로 72종의 세책 소설 목록을 작성할 수 있었다. 금호와 동호 세책집의 영업방식은 이미 잘 알려진 향목동 세책집과 일정한 차이를 보인다. 금호․동호 세책 및 대출장부의 대표적인 특성은 다음과 같이 정리할 수 있다. 대출장부를 기록하는 방식이 작품별이 아닌 날짜 및 시간순으로 대출 사항을 기록하는 날짜별 대출장부를 사용하였다. 동일한 제목의 작품이라고 하더라도 향목동 세책에 비하여 금호․동호 세책은 분량(책수)이 더 많은 경우가 있다. 대출작품 중 장편소설의 비중이 향목동 세책집에 비하여 현저하게 낮다. 이 논문에서 살펴본 금호․동호 세책 대출장부와 기존에 정리된 향목동 세책 대출장부, 그리고 그 외의 나머지 몇몇 세책 대출장부들을 모두 종합하여 세책 유통의 실상에 대한 전체적인 정리를 기대할 수 있을 것이다.
