is very popular novel written in Korean in late Chosun Dynasty era, it has many different versions as a whole. Among many of them, Dajeon-University version of cut a heterogeneous form. Because a novel for lending, Dajeon-University version of , completely different many other version of handwritten-novel. By the way Dajeon-University version of is defective version, it’s a lacking volume. So Dajeon-University version of is not studied all the while. But if we can refer to a complete version of , we make a rough guess the lacking of Dajeon-University version of . Therefore Dajeon-University version of can stand comparison as a subject of study. And above all, Dajeon-University version of can show in the late Joseon period, commercialization of novel, so it must be studied. In this regard, this thesis compared the Dajeon-University version of and Nason, a complete version and look into difference in respect of their content and expression. Also, this article discussed about descriptive feature of Dajeon-University version of from the commerciality of novels for lending.

조선 후기에 출현한 창작 국문소설 <상운전>은 여러 이본들이 존재하는 가운데 세책본(貰冊本)으로 제작되었을 만큼 상당히 인기가 있었던 작품으로 생각된다. 이때 대전대학교에 소장되어 있는 <상운전>은 세책본이며, 다른 이본들에 비해 내용적 편차가 큰 편이다. 한편 대전대학교 <상운전>은 그 이본적 가치에도 불구하고, 중간에 한 권이 빠진 결함이 있는 이본이라는 이유로 그간 제대로 연구가 이루어지지 않았다. 그런데 일실된 대전대학교 <상운전> 권3에 들어있을 것이라 생각되는 내용은 완질본 <상운전>을 참고하면 대략적인 서사 진행 상황을 어렵지 않게 파악할 수 있기 때문에 연구 텍스트로써 큰 문제가 되지 않는다. 또한 대전대학교 <상운전>은 ‘조선 후기 고소설의 상업화 현상’을 보여주는 텍스트라는 점에서 반드시 연구되어야 할 필요성이 있다. 위와 같은 판단을 바탕으로 이 글에서는 대전대학교 <상운전>과 완질본인 나손본을 비교하여 이들의 내용과 표현상 차이를 알아보고, 아울러 세책본 <상운전>의 서사적 특징을 논의하였다. 그 결과 대전대본은 대체로 나손본의 서사적 틀에서 크게 벗어나지 않지만, 세부적인 측면에서 내용과 표현상 일정한 차이를 보이는 텍스트임을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 나손본과 같은 일반적인 필사본과 다른, 대전대학교 <상운전>의 서사적 특징으로 지적할 수 있는 ‘서술량 확대’와 ‘흥미성 강화’ 등은 일반적으로 영리 추구를 목적으로 제작되는 세책본 고소설의 상업성으로 이해할 수 있다.
