Iljung Kim, Chung Hyun is a master who opened a new prospect in the field of the 20th century’s modern and contemporary calligraphy. Along with the reputation as a calligrapher with an established name for Korean and Chinese calligraphies, he wrote numerous textbooks that are guides to learn calligraphy, contributing in a significant way to the development of Korean calligraphy. The textbook introduced in this thesis, “Geun-Yeok-Seo-Bo” is a piece of writing published in a series Shina Daily Newsin 1967 with a huge number of readers and made a great contribution to the development of Korean calligraphy. Nevertheless, in recent years, it is even difficult to find anyone who is familiar with this document. Through research, the Author learned that the most critical supporting document to understand “Geun-Yeok-Seo-Bo” is “Geun-Yeok-Seo-Hwa-Jing,” written by Oh, Sye Chang. However, as a result of comparing those two documents, the Author discovered that “Geun-Yeok-Seo-Bo” by Iljung does not follow all of the details in “Geun-Yeok-Seo-Hwa-Jing” by Oh, Sye Chang, in terms of selection of authors and citations, despite the fact that it is based on “Geun-Yeok-Seo-Hwa-Jing”. This thesis finds out that 34 among 150 characters introduced in “Geun-Yeok-Seo-Bo” do not appear in “Geun-Yeok-Seo-Hwa-Jing” and that particularly most of them are belong to “Jeol-Ui (Fidelity)” through analyzing the propensity of those characters. The Author reveals that his tendency to select such characters is closely related to his childhood. Written based on extensive literature materials and Iljung’s independent view of history, “Geun-Yeok-Seo-Bo” is expected to be a valuable document to fill the gap of the incomplete Korean calligraphy history and to understand Mun-In-Seo-Ye (Writer’s calligraphy).

일중 김충현은 20세기 근 현대 서예의 새로운 지평을 연 거장이다. 그는 한글과 한문서예에 일가를 이룬 서예가로서의 명성과 함께 서예학습의 길잡이가 되는 많은 교본을 저술하여 한국서예발전에 공헌한 바가 크다. 본 논문에서 소개되는 『槿域書譜』는 1967년 신아일보에 연재된 글로서 당시 독자층이 많았고 한국서예발전에 이바지한 바가 크지만, 최근 들어 이 자료를 아는 사람을 발견하기조차 어렵다. 논자는 연구를 통해 『근역서보』를 이해하는데 있어 가장 결정적인 근거자료가 오세창의 『槿域書畵徵』임을 알 수 있었다. 그러나 자료를 비교한 결과 일중의 『근역서보』는 오세창의 『근역서화징』에 근거를 두고 있으면서도 작가의 선정과 인용자료 면에서 『근역서화징』을 모두 따르지 않고 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 본 논문에서는 『근역서보』에 소개된 150명 중에서 34명이 『근역서화징』에 없는 인물이며, 인물의 성향 분석을 통해 이들이 특히 ‘절의’에 속하는 인물이 많다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 논자는 이와 같은 인물선정 성향이 일중의 성장 과정과 매우 밀접한 관계가 있음을 밝혔다. 방대한 문헌자료와 일중의 독자적인 역사관에 의해 쓰여진 『근역서보』는 부족한 한국서예사를 보완해주고, 문인서예를 이해하는데 소중한 자료가 되리라고 본다.
