Jogakbo were common in Korea during the Joseon period. It has unique aesthetic and artistic values. This study applied images of such Jogakbo to designs of neckties, which are an essential item of men's formal suits. Theoretical research was done on artifacts and literature about Joseon Jogakbo. The resulting images were applied to necktie designs in both Photoshop simulations and actual neckties. This study seeks to maintain the identity of traditional Korean culture and help determine appropriate directions of Korean design for the future. More specifically, it suggests necktie designs that can maintain and emphasize Korean images. The patterns extracted from Jogakbo images were defined and applied to necktie designs initially in Photoshop simulations. Based on the simulations, seven transfer-dyed polyester neckties were made. The first design is based on the designs of square Jogakbo; the second on those of triangular Jogakbo; the third, fourth, and fifth on those of free-style Jogakbo; the sixth on those of pinwheel-style Jogakbo; and the seventh on those of dongsimgyeol (traditional knot)-style Jogakbo. By bringing traditional cultural elements into everyday life and commercializing them, this study is intended to recognize artistic values of Korea's unique traditional crafts, apply them to the designs of various fashion items, and thereby recreate and reinforce the value of traditional crafts. Efforts should be made on an ongoing basis to develop designs with traditional craft and cultural elements.

본 연구는 한국 전통공예 부문 중 독자적인 조형미와 예술성이 표현되어 있는 조선시대 조각보의 이미지를 남성복 정장의 필수 아이템인 넥타이 디자인에 응용하여 진행하였다. 연구방법은 유물과 문헌을 통한 이론적 고찰을 바탕으로 조선시대 조각보의 유형을 참고하여 조각보 이미지를 응용한 넥타이 디자인을 컴퓨터 포토샵을 통한 시뮬레이션 작업과 넥타이 제작으로 진행하였다. 연구의 목적은 우리 전통문화의 정체성을 유지하고 한국적 디자인의 방향을 모색하는 의미에서 조선시대의 조각보 이미지를 넥타이 디자인에 응용하여 한국적 이미지를 부각시킬 수 있는 넥타이 디자인을 제안해 보기 위함이다. 연구내용으로는 우선 조각보 이미지를 응용한 패턴을 정형화하고 넥타이 디자인에 적용하여 포토샾 시뮬레이션 작업을 하였고, 시뮬레이션 작업의 디자인을 참고로 폴리에스테르 소재로 전사염 기법의 넥타이 7점을 제작해 보았다. 넥타이 디자인1은 사각형식의 조각보, 디자인2는 삼각형식의 조각보, 디자인3, 4 ,5는 자유형식의 조각보, 디자인6는 바람개비 형식의 조각보, 디자인7은 동심결 형식의 조각보의 이미지를 응용하여 표현, 제작하였다. 본 연구가 우리의 독자적인 전통공예의 예술적 의미를 인식하고 현대적 패션 아이템 디자인에 실용화시킬 수 있는 전통문화 요소의 미적가치를 재창출할 수 있는 계기가 되기를 바란다. 또한 전통 공예문화 요소를 응용한 디자인 개발이 지속적으로 이루어질 수 있도록 힘을 기울여야 할 것이다.
