This paper is to inquire regional income disparity and urban-rural income disparity in chinese western region since the western region development projects of China have been implemented in 1999. Although having achieved remarkable economic growth over the last three decades, China is confronted with the difficulties which is called as three great disparities: regional disparity, urban-rural disparity, rich-poor disparity. Rural areas of western region of China are undergoing both regional gap and urban-rural gap. The results of this paper are as followings: first, we could find considerable income increase in the western region over past decade, but the income gap between the east and the west was not reduced. second, income gap between urban residents in the east and those in the west was widened, and that of rural residents was somewhat released. lastly, income gap between urban and rural residents in the western region was being widened mostly.

본 논문은 서부대개발 사업 이후 중국 서부지역 성․시․자치구간의 도농격차 변화와 요인을 분석한 것이다. 중국 서부지역의 농촌주민들은 지역격차와 도농격차의 이중고에 시달리고 있다. 따라서 지역격차 못지않게 지역내 도농격차가 소득분배와 성장동력의 양측면에서 중요한 문제이다. 본 논문의 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 서부지역의 소득은 증가하였으나 동서부지역간 소득격차는 완화되지 못하였으며 오히려 확대된 측면이 크다. 둘째, 동서부지역간 도시주민 소득의 격차는 확대되었으나 농촌주민 소득의 지역격차는 축소되었다. 이는 서부지역 농촌주민의 소득증대보다는 동부지역 농촌주민의 상대적 소득감소가 더 주요한 원인으로 보인다. 셋째, 서부지역내 도시주민과 농촌주민 간의 소득격차는 일부 성․시․구를 제외하면 오히려 심화되었다. 이는 서부대개발 사업을 위한 공공 및 민간투자의 대부분이 사회간접자본을 비롯한 공업부문에 집중되어 있기 때문인데, 본 논문에서는 산업구조의 문제와 농촌부문의 생산성 문제를 통해 확인할 수 있었다.
