The purpose of this study is to examine the use of journal writing in early childhood teacher education. Journal has various types and formats. Among those are literature logs, reflective journals, and dialogue journals. Procedures of how to write a journal were reviewed in this article. In the preparation phase, a learning community needs to be created. The development of personal meanings attached to journals should be encouraged. Once a learning community is created, journal writers should be prepared
to possess the attitudes of openmindedness, responsibility, and wholeheartedness. In the writing phase, a systematic guideline for writing journals can be provided. The process and the content of journal writing were explained in detail. Journal writing helps teachers to develop reflective thinking and shared meanings, construct personalized theory, and promote critical thinking. Journal writing is certainly a time consuming activity. Even though journal writing is not free from its limitation, it is a very useful learning tool in early childhood teacher education. It is especially a economic tool for assisting teachers in becoming better thinkers.

본 연구는 최근 유아교사교육에서 그 중요성 이 강조되고 있는 저널쓰기의 활용을 고찰하기 위한 목적으로 실행되었다． 저널쓰기는 유아교사들이 자신의 실천행위에 대해 개인적인 관점을 가지고 기록하는 다양한 형태의 글쓰기를 의미하며 유아교사의 전문성 향상에 필수적인 요소이다． 본 연구에서는 저널 쓰기의 개념， 준비단계， 방법 등을 고찰하였으며 반성적 사고의 신장과 개인화된 이론 구축 등의 교육적 효과 및 제한점을 논하였다．
