The purpose of this study is to examine the conversion aspect of curriculum and class shown in the practical arts class using the qualitative research method. The major questions for this study include: First, how is the curriculum of practical arts converted in the class? Second, what aspect is shown in the practical arts class? In order to accomplish the purpose of this study, two female elementary school teachers were selected as the participants for this study. Two teachers gave lessons on the same unit. Data was collected through recording classes, interviews and observation of classes. The collected data was integrated, signified and analyzed. The result of this study is as follows: First, The classes of two teachers were analyzed and two significant words were identified. Such words include explaining the curriculum with ‘living’ and connecting the class to ‘living’. Explaining the curriculum with ‘living’ means that two teachers conduct the curriculum based on a subject of ‘living’ in the practical arts class. At this time, since the curriculum was analyzed through living-oriented approach, the situations such as different approach from the curriculum and groundless approach also appeared. Second, connecting the class to ‘living’ means that most of practical arts class is proceeded through a subject matter of ‘living’. Such aspects were shown in three aspects including expanding from the textbook to living; starting in living and reviewing with the textbook; and learning synthetically by the textbook and actual life. ‘Expanding from the textbook to living’ is the type of studying with the textbook properly and applying and expanding the contents in the living. ‘Starting in living and reviewing with the textbook’ is the type of that after starting to thinking with living-related examples and lesson activities and experiencing the contents through such process, learning the textbook contents and concepts. ‘Learning synthetically by the textbook and actual life’ is the type of proceeding the class with the textbook and real-life subjects from the beginning and finishing up with an activity to apply and expand such contents. A subject of ‘living’ acts closely as the medium of starting to think, the subject which interacts with the contents of textbook, and the finishing material throughout the course of practical arts class.

이 연구의 목적은 실과 수업에서 드러나는 교육과정과 수업의 변환 양상에 대해 질적 연구 방법으로 탐색해 보는데 있다. 연구 문제는 첫째, 실과 교육과정은 수업에서 어떻게 변환되는가? 둘째, 실과 수업에서 나타나는 수업의 양상은 어떠한가? 이다. 이 연구문제를 실현하기 위해 연구 참여자는 초등 여교사 2명으로 선정하였다. 두 교사는 같은 단원을 수업하였다. 자료는 수업 동영상 촬영, 인터뷰, 수업관찰을 통해 수집되었다. 수집된 자료는 통합하고 의미화하여 해석하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 두 교사의 수업을 분석하여 크게 두 개의 의미어를 도출하였다. 그것은 ‘교육과정 생활로 풀어내기’와 ‘수업 생활로 엮기’이다. 교육과정 생활로 풀어내기는 두 교사가 실과 수업에서 교육과정을 ‘생활’이라는 주제를 근간으로 풀어내고 있다는 것을 말한다. 이 때 생활 중심 접근으로 교육과정이 해석되므로 인해, 교육과정과 다르게 접근하기와 근거없는 비약으로 접근하기라는 현상도 나타났다. 둘째, 수업 ‘생활’로 엮기는 실과 수업의 대부분이 ‘생활’이라는 소재를 통해 진행되고 있다는 것이다. 그 양상은 크게 세 가지로 나타났다. 그것은 교과서 중심에서 생활로 펼치기, 생활로 열고 교과서로 다지기, 교과서와 생활로 통합하기였다. ‘교과서 중심에서 생활로 펼치기’는 먼저, 교과서를 충실히 다룬 다음에 그 내용을 생활에 적용하고 확장하는 유형이다. ‘생활로 열고 교과서로 다지기’는 먼저, 차시 활동과 관련한 생활 사례로 생각 열기를 하고 그 과정에서 학습 내용을 접하게 한 후, 교과서 내용을 익히면서 개념을 익히게 하는 유형이다. ‘교과서와 생활로 통합하기’는 수업이 처음부터 교과서와 생활 소재가 통합하여 진행되고 마지막에 생활에 적용하고 확산하는 활동으로 마무리하는 유형을 말한다. 실과 수업의 전체 과정에서 ‘생활’이라는 소재는 생각 열기 매체, 교과 내용과 상호작용하는 소재, 그리고 마무리 자료로 긴밀하게 작용하고 있음을 알 수 있었다.
