The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze the newspaper editorials of Korean mainstream media on high school diversification policy which was introduced in 2010 under the Lee, Myung-bak administration. A network text analysis method is employed to analyze the newspaper editorials. The research findings are: first, the frequency of the word ‘selection' is the highest. which reflects the policy objectives of providing more choice in both schools and the curricula. The word ‘selection’ is also associated with ‘competition’ which might be intensified as a result of the high school diversification policy. This characteristics are reflected in the case of autonomous private high schools, it concerns about the ‘student selection’, ‘autonomy’ and the negative impacts of intensifying competition among students for their admission. Third, in the case of autonomous public high schools, such key words as ‘human resources', ‘achievement' and ’educational competencies' are frequently employed to distinguish themselves from the ‘general high schools’. Fourth, in the case of public boarding high schools, the discussions on reducing ‘education gap’ between different socio-economic classes and improving the ‘educational environment’ are identified as a major issue. Fifth, positive notions about the meister high schools are identified in its relation to ‘human resource’ development and ‘competitiveness’ through vocational training, ‘employment’ and ‘school-work links’.

본 연구는 지난 이명박 정부의 ‘고교다양화 300 프로젝트’로 대변되는 고교다양화 정책에 대한 주요 언론사 신문 칼럼에서 나타난 담론의 경향을 분석하고, 이를 통해 향후 우리나라 고교교육 및 고교다양화 정책에 주는 시사점을 도출하는데 그 목적이 있다. 연구 목적에 따라 주요 일간지인 조선일보, 중앙일보, 동아일보, 경향신문, 한겨레신문에 2008년 1월 1일부터 2013년 8월 16일 사이에 게재된 칼럼을 대상으로 네트워크 텍스트 분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과 첫째, 고교다양화 정책 전반에 대한 칼럼 분석 결과, ‘선택’이라는 단어의 빈도가 가장 높았음을 고려할 때, 고교다양화 정책에 있어 학교 및 교육과정·프로그램의 선택이 사회적으로도 주목받았음을 알 수 있었던 반면, ‘경쟁’의 심화에 대한 우려도 있었던 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 자율형사립고의 경우 ‘학생선발권’ 및 ‘자율권’ 부여로 인한 부작용에 대한 우려와 함께 자율형사립고가 ‘귀족학교’화되고 입시경쟁을 유도하는 부정적인 영향을 미친다는 시각이 나타났다. 셋째, 자율형공립고는 ‘인재’ 육성과 ‘성적’, ‘교육역량’이라는 핵심어가 ‘일반고’와 대비되는 특징으로 언급되고 있었으며, 교장 및 교원 인사가 이슈화되었음을 보여주고 있다. 넷째, 기숙형고는 도시지역 고교와의 ‘교육격차’ 완화 및 ‘교육환경’ 개선에 대한 논의가 주요 쟁점인 것으로 확인되었다. 다섯째, 마이스터고의 경우 직업교육을 통한 ‘인재 육성’과 ‘경쟁력’, ‘취업’과 ‘산학연계’ 등에 대체로 긍정적 성과를 거두고 있다는 논의가 많았던 것으로 분석되었다.
