The purpose of this study is to find the implications of contemporary elementary education by searching for the meaning of the epistemology of the apex of his wisdomas the object of exploring the epistemology of Augustinus. First, the meaning of the wisdom of Augustinus is searched, separated by ‘the e ssence of wisdom' and ‘the wisdom way of recognizing'. the essence of wisdom i s ‘the contemplation of the truth' and ‘spiritual recovery', the principles of recogni zed wisdom are ‘the principle of self-knowledge',‘ the principles of lighting', ‘the p rinciple of love', ‘the principle of complementarity' and ‘the principle of hierarchy'. Second, implications for contemporary elementary education that is searched from t he research results are as follows: That has implications for human ontological ide ntity, education and the transition to personal knowledge from objective knowledg e, re-conceptualization of holistic education, including spirituality. Be a value-oriented education, and human beings should acquire insight and value judgment of the direction of life through education. In this regard the meaning of the Augustinus' wisdom is greater implications for in contemporary elementary education.

본 연구는 아우구스티누스의 인식론을 탐구의 대상으로 그의 인식론의 정점인 ‘지혜’의 의 미를 탐색함으로써 현대의 초등교육에 주는 시사점을 논의하는 것이다. 연구결과, 첫째 아우구스티누스의 지혜의 의미는 ‘지혜의 본질’과 ‘지혜 인식의 방법’으로 구분하였다. 지혜의 본질은 ‘진리의 정관’과 ‘영성 회복’에 있으며, 이 지혜의 인식 방식은 ‘자 기지식의 원리’, ‘조명의 원리’, ‘사랑의 원리’, ‘상보성의 원리’, ‘위계성의 원리’에 의존한다. 둘 째, 현대의 초등교육에 주는 시사점은, 즉 공통교육의 목적으로써 인간의 정체성 교육이 강조 되어야 하고, 기존의 객관적 지식 위주의 교육내용과 방법적 인식이 인격적 지식으로 전환되 어야 하며, 전인교육의 범주로서 spirituality의 개념을 강화한 전인교육의 재개념화를 시사한다. 교육은 가치 지향적이어야 하며, 인간은 교육을 통해 삶의 방향의 기준이 되는 통찰력과 가치 판단력을 습득해야 한다. 이 점에서 아우구스티누스의 지혜의 의미가 현대 초등교육에 주는 시사점은 크며, 인간의 정체성 교육과 인격적 지식, 전인교육의 재개념화에 대한 논의를 필요로 한다.
