This study set out to investigate the current state of transition education provided to children in the transition from kindergarten to elementary school by educational institutions for young children including kindergartens and elementary schools and propose directions for the understanding of transition education needed by parents expecting their children to adjust to elementary school naturally based on the current state of transition education. The findings show that parent education should be systematic and comprehensive. Its content should include the cognitive, emotional, and physical characteristics of children and provide detailed guidance on the homeroom teachers of children. It should also offer information about the uses and procedures of school life spaces, information about the academic aspects such as the textbook content and grading, and special interest and detailed information to parents whose children are first graders or who lack information about elementary school life. Such parent education for parents with children in the transition should be provided to make necessary preparations for transition in the early days or second semester of seven years old rather than for a short time right before graduation or right after entrance into elementary school so that parents can reduce anxiety in the graduation and entrance process like their children and help their children go through the transition to elementary school life in a natural, confident, and successful manner.

본 연구는 유치원에서 초등학교로의 전환기 아동에 이루어지는 유치원을 비롯한 유아교육 기관과 초등학교에서 이루어지는 전환교육의 실태에 대해 알아보고, 이러한 실태를 바탕으로 자연스럽게 초등학교에 적응할 수 있기를 기대하는 학부모들에게 필요한 전환교육 이해에 대 한 방향을 제시하고자 하는 것이다. 연구결과, 학부모교육은 체계적이고 포괄적으로 이루어져야 한다. 교육 내용에는 아동의 인 지적, 정서적, 신체적 특성이 포함되어야 하고, 담임교사에 대한 상세한 안내가 반드시 이루 어져야 한다. 또한 초등학교 생활에 대한 정보가 부족한 학부모들에게는 특별한 관심을 갖고 상세한 정보를 제공하도록 해야 한다. 이와 같은 전환기 아동에 대한 학부모교육은 졸업 직전이나 입학 직후에 단기간 실시되기 보다 7세 초기나 7세 2학기부터 전환을 미리 준비하게 함으로써 학부모들이 아동과 마찬가지 로 졸업과 입학 과정에서 느끼는 불안감을 줄이고 자연스럽고 자신감 있는 초등학교 생활로 의 전환을 성공적으로 경험하도록 도울 것이다.
