In respect of the ways in which the classical type of feudal labor services was performed, there are various characteristics as follows: Tenants of the classical manor performed labor services in the lord's demesne with their own means of labor. Tenants sometimes took or sent a few slaves or workers. Tenant's wife also played an assistant role in carrying out labor services. And considerable labor services were accomplished in the form of teamwork. In terms of processes involved in performing the classical type of the feudal labor services, there are a variety of characteristics such as: Most of labor services were imposed and carried out in the busy farming season. Work hour was very long from sunrise to sunset and peasant's life was controlled in order to let them concentrate in performing labor services. If loss occurred to lord in connection with a particular kind of labor service, peasant who had accomplished the labor took responsibility for compensating the loss. Tenants had to bear some materials like seeds needed to cultivation of demesne. Accomplishment of labor services was forced by imposing of arrearage charge, fine, beating, etc. Lastly although labor services are unpaid labors, tenants were not often provided with meals in process of carrying out labor services.

고전장원제 아래서 토지보유 농민들에게 부과되고 실행된 고전적 형태의 봉건적 부역노동의 특징적 수행방법으로는, 농민이 스스로 노동수단을 지참해 가서 영주직영지에서 부역노동을 수행했다는 것, 부역노동 수행에 때때로 노예나 일꾼을 대동하거나 파견했다는 것, 그의 아내도 영주직영지의 부역노동 수행에서 보조적 역할을 담당했다는 것, 갈이질 부역과 수송부역 등에서 공동작업이 제법 실시되었다는 것 등을 들 수 있다. 고전적 형태의 봉건적 부역노동이 수행되는 과정에서 나타나는 특징적 현상은 부역이 주로 농번기에 부과되어 수행되었다는 점, 노동시간이 해 뜨는 아침부터 해 지는 저녁까지 매우 길고 부역노동에 지장을 초래하는 농민생활은 통제를 받았다는 점, 특별한 종류의 부역노동 수행과 관련하여 농민에게 직접적 책임이 없더라도 발생한 영주의 손실에 대래서는 부역농민이 보상책임을 졌다는 점, 농민이 영주직영지 경작에 소요되는 씨앗 등 농업용 자재의 일부를 부담했다는 점, 연체료와 벌금 부과, 구타 등을 통해 부역노동의 이행이 강제되었다는 점, 부역농민은 부역노동 수행과정에서 식사조차 제대로 제공받지 못했다는 점 등이 지적될 수 있다.
