China has been supporting the unification of the Korean Peninsula; China’s view on the unification of the Korean Peninsula is “Détente, Peace and Unification”. Chinese scholars generally believe that unification on the Peninsula will not be available in the coming short term except in the case of abrupt internal incidents. In short, the benefits for China including, More secure and stable border areas, fewer DPRK defectors and the NGOs, no longer being criticized by the opposite two sides, more impetus to achieve the unification of the two sides across the Taiwan Straits, etc. The negative impacts for china including, losing a friendly neighbor and an important buffer, the rising of national defense budget to directly face military forces of the ROK and even those of the US, losing “special status” on regional politics, the weakening of China’s international image and status, facing territorial and history disputes, etc.

中国支持朝鲜半岛的统一，中国对朝鲜半岛统一的立场是“缓和、和平、统一”。 中国学者一般都认为，除非朝鲜内部发生突发事件，朝鲜半岛在短期内难以统一。 简而言之，对中国而言，统一的好处是中国周边将更安全，边疆稳定，“脱北者”和 非政府组织活动减少，中国不再被批评偏袒朝鲜，也将会促进两岸统一。从负面影 响来说，中国将失去一个友好的邻居，一个重要的缓冲，为应对美国和韩国军事力 量增加国防负担，中国还将失去地缘政治的“特殊”地位，中国的国际形象将被削 弱，今后还有可能面临着领土争端和历史纠纷等。
