25 years after the Reunification of Germany, Germany seems to have two conflicting minds about the Reunification. Some Germans respect the accomplishments during 1989-1990, and others believe it is a disappointment. So, they feel the pain of unfulfilled ambitions and promises. Has the German Reunification succeeded from the aspect of social integration? This paper does not have the answer to that, but it examines the changes of the German Society after the Reunification. Also, this paper seeks to trace the interconnections between the social, economic, and political dimensions of the German Reunification, instead of answering the question if the German Reunification has succeeded or failed. Lastly, this paper seeks to understand what the German social integration after the Reunification, suggests on unified Korea.

올해는 독일 통일 25주년이 되는 해이다. 이 연구는 통일 이후 구 동독지역의 변화 를 중심으로 독일의 사회통합을 설명하고 있다. 이를 위해 이 연구는 다양한 자료를 중심으로 경제, 정치, 사회 분야에서의 독일사회의 변화를 다루고 있다. 또한 시스템 통합과 사회통합의 개념을 중심으로 통일 이후 독일의 사회현상을 설명하고 진단하고 자 하였다. 사회현상으로서의 사회통합은 성공 혹은 실패라는 이분법적인 단순한 잣대 로 평가될 수 없기 때문에 다양한 자료를 바탕으로 통일 이후 동독사회의 변화를 중심 으로 통합과정을 설명하였다. 마지막으로 연구자는 독일통일 후 통합과정에서의 문제 점과 긍정적인 사례를 통해 다음의 시사점을 도출하였다. 우리는 지금부터라도 통일을 넘어 적극적인 사회통합적 관점에서 통일준비를 해야 한다. 이를 위해 첫째, 북한사회 의 장점을 찾아 이를 통합에 적극적으로 활용해야 한다. 둘째, 우리사회의 통일이슈를 다양한 미래가치와 연관시켜 통일준비를 자연스럽게 통일준비를 해야 한다는 점이다.
