The purpose of this study is to analyze the present status and the structure of the service industry in Gyeongnam province. For this, it applied the location quotient and the growth rate differential analysis. Data include the number of employees and the added value of service industry by the 18 cities and counties of Gyeongnam in a survey of businesses nationwide(year in 2007, year in 2011) for the national statistical office. The findings are as follows. Firstly, the service industry in Gyeongnam was indicated to be high in location quotient of social service and individual service and to be low in location quotient of distribution and producer service sector. Still, in case of distribution service, Gimhae and Yangsan area were shown to be high in location quotient compared to the whole country. Thus, this region had been specialized the distribution service sector. Secondly, the service industry in Gyeongnam tended to be relatively high in the total growth rate differential of social service and individual service and to be relatively low in the case of distribution service and producer service. In conclusion, the service industry in Gyeongnam is growing focusing on eastern-part area and urban area like the manufacturing business. The western-part area is still in the situation of being slow in development. For the equal expansion in region, a measure of developing service industry in consideration of a local characteristic is thought to be likely to be necessarily arranged.

본 연구의 목적은 경남지역 서비스산업 현황 및 구조를 분석하는데 있다. 통계청 전국사업체조사(2007, 2011) 자료를 활용하여 경남 18개 시/군의 서비스산업 종사자수와 부가가치를 기준으로 입지계수(location quotient), 성장률시차분석(growth rate differential analysis)을 적용하였다. 연구 결과는 첫째, 경남의 서비스산업은 사회서비스와 개인서비스의 입지계수가 높고, 유통 및 생산자서비스의 입지계수는 낮게 나타났다. 단, 유통서비스의 경우 김해와 양산지역은 전국대비 입지계수가 높게 나타나 이 지역은 유통서비스업이 특화되어 있었다. 둘째, 경남의 서비스산업은 사회서비스와 개인서비스의 총성장률시차가 비교적 높고, 유통서비스 및 생산자서비스의 경우는 비교적 낮은 편이었다. 결과적으로 경남의 서비스산업은 제조업과 마찬가지로 동부지역 및 도시지역을 중심으로 발전하고 있다. 서부지역에서는 여전히 발전이 더딘 상황이며, 지역의 고른 발전을 위해서는 지역적 특성을 고려한 서비스산업 발전대책이 마련되어야 할 것으로 생각된다.
