The greatest influence on the creation of Chosŏn’s poems on poetry was Wang Shizhen. His Thirty-two Quatrains Written in Playful Imitation of Yuan Haowen’s “Discussing Poetry” attracted the attention of Chosŏn poets as Kim Sang-hŏn’s poetry appeared in it. Yi Dŏk-mu’s poems on poetry were an early version of Wang’s form. It depicted poems on poetry by Qing and Chosŏn poets serially, and additionally pre-Koryŏ poets were historically evaluated in the form of poems on poetry. Sin Wi’s poems on poetry embraced Wang’s form even more so, and evaluated Chosŏn’s poets in historical sequence along with the development of Chosŏn poetry. Sin refined and arranged the previous fragmented “remarks on poetry” of Chosŏn poems according to his historical views. It was also different in that it showed individual poets through poems on poetry. His historical criticism also influenced the literary historical narrative of a later scholar, Kim T’ae-jun. In A History of Chosŏn Classical Chinese Literature, the headings under “Four Masters of Poetry” and “The Jiangxi School of Poetry in Chosŏn” contain Sin’s criticisms. The influence of Sin’s Quatrains on other poems on poetry and historical evaluation of poetry continued into the modern era.

조선의 논시절구 형성에 가장 큰 영향을 끼친 사람은 왕사정(王士禎)이다. 그 의 ｢방원유산논시절구(倣元遺山論詩絶句)｣에 김상헌의 시가 등장하였기 때문 에, 조선 시인들의 주목을 끌었다. 이덕무의 논시절구는 왕사정의 양식을 도입한 초기 형태를 보여준다. 청의 시인과 조선의 시인을 연작 형태로 한 논시를 보여주 었고, 아울러 고려 이전의 시인을 논평하는 논시 양식을 선보였다. 신위의 논시절 구는 왕사정의 논시절구를 더욱 적극적으로 수용한 형태이다. 조선의 역대 시인을 차례로 논평하면서 조선 시의 발전 과정을 통시적으로 보여준다. 이전 시화에서 보이는 조선 시에 대한 논평의 파편들을 신위는 자신의 시관에 따라 정제하고 배 열하였던 것이다. 이 점이 개별적인 시인을 논시로 보여주는 다른 논시시와의 차 이라 할 수 있다. 통시적인 관점에서의 논평은 이후 김태준의 문학사 서술에도 영 향을 미쳤다. 김태준의『조선한문학사』의 세부적인 항목 가운데 “詩中四傑”, “海 東江西派”와 같은 항목은 신위의 논평을 도입한 것이다. 신위의 논시절구는 여타 논시시에 영향을 준 동시에 통시적으로 시를 논평했다는 점에서 근대에까지 영향 력을 미쳤던 것이다.
