The purpose of this study is to analyze online news articles about multicultural social discrimination and to suggest a direction of multicultural education in Korea. For this purpose, this paper firstly investigates the distinctive features of multicultural situation in Korea which is different from that of Western society. Secondly, this paper attempts to analyze online news articles about multicultural social discrimination, and to suggest a direction for new multicultural education in Korea. According to the results of the analysis, Korean multicultural society has the different characteristics from those of Western society. The greater parts of Korean multicurtural society are multicultural families and immigrant labors. There is some possibility of social conflict arisen from multicultural discrimination in accordance with increasing immigrant labors and their communities in Korea. And the present multicultural discrimination occurs from various phases of institution, culture, consciousness and attitude related to multicultural society. Therefore, multicultural education should be necessary to include the contents of the abolishing discrimination and the human rights of immigrant labor as well as of multicultural families. In addition to this, multicultural education needs to include social science education that researches the causes of the discrimination and conflict phenomenon in Korean multicultural society.

본 연구는 서구와 구분되는 한국 다문화사회의 특성을 고찰하고, 인터넷신문 자료를 바탕으로 한국 다문화사회의 차별 및 갈등현상과 그 원인을 분석하여, 차별과 갈등을 줄이기 위한 다문화교육의 방향을 제시하였다. 연구결과를 보면, 한국 다문화사회는 서구 다문화사회와는 다른 특성을 가지고 있다. 한국 다문화사회의 주요 구성원은 이주노동자와 국제결혼자이다. 한국은 다문화공동체의 형성이 시작단계이고 이에 기초한 갈등의 역사적 경험이 없으나, 이주노동자와 이주 공동체의 발달에 의한 갈등 가능성은 존재한다. 그리고 한국 다문화사회에 있어 차별현상은 제도, 문화, 의식과 태도 등 다양한 차원에서 일어나고 있으나, 그 구체적 내용은 문화적 차별보다 사회·경제적 차별이 대부분이다. 그러므로 장래 한국 다문화사회에서의 갈등과 차별을 줄이기 위해서는 한국 다문화사회의 특수성 인정, 인권과 차별철폐, 차별과 갈등을 초래하는 사회적 원인 등에 대한 교육이 이루어져야 한다.
