2015 is the 120th sad anniversary of the brutal assassination(1895) of empress Myeongseong. The purpose of this study is to contemplate the brutal assassination of empress Myeongseong in the terrorism aspect and to learn lessons of security aspects.The results are referred below. As an aspect of 'human security', the brutal assassination of empress Myeongseong was an overall failure incident, considered that a palace guard was subjected by foreigner, a lot of renegade worked at the time, and so on. As an aspect of 'physical security', it also was an overall failure incident, considered that at that time, physical response system was highly vulnerable in many ways. The accident, the brutal assassination of empress Myeongseong, was happened and led by Japanese government at that time. We could present detailed evidences : ① Japanese government's intervention in process of possessing the royal palace of the Joseon Dynasty period by force at 1894, ② assassination led by the Japanese minister to Korea,③ circumstances of Japanese intellectuals' involvement. In conclusion, the brutal assassination of empress Myeongseong was a serious violation to the sovereignty of the independent nation, a homicide by Japanese diplomats, a terrorist crime by Japanese government. Focusing on documentary researching method could be mentioned as limitations, but it has academic contributions and meaningfulness considering to construct the base of future studies, despite lack of related research. It's expected related future studies will be followed.

2015년은 1895(을미)년 음력 8월 20일(양력 10월 8일) 대한제국 국모인 명성황후가 왕궁(王宮)의 침전(寢殿)에서 조선주재 일본공사 삼포오루(三浦梧樓, 미우라 고로)가 지휘하는 일본인 낭인(浪人)들에게 무참히 시해된 참변이 발생한지 120년이 되는 을미년해이다. 본 연구의 목적은 을미사변발생 120년을 맞아 을미사변을 테러학적 분야로 살펴보고, 경호ㆍ경비학적 고찰을 통하여 교훈을 도출하는 것이다. 연구방법으로 문헌연구방법을 사용하여 사학(史學)문헌을 이용하였다. 특히 세부적이고 논란이 있는 미시적(微視的)보다 거시적(巨視的)관점으로 접근하였다. 고찰 결과 을미사변은 인적경호 측면으로 왕궁의 경호ㆍ경비를 외국인에게 의지하며, 충성심이 있는 자들을 선발하여 운영하지 않고 내부 감찰활동에 실패하여 변절자들이 근무한 점과 물적 경호 측면으로 왕궁경호ㆍ경비부대의 물리적 대응능력 보존 미흡을 본 연구자는 제시한다. 을미사변을 테러학적 관점에서 유형별 구분으로 보면 ▴1894년 조선왕궁 점령과정 속의 일본 개입 ▴일본공사의 시해주도 ▴일본 지식인들의 개입근거 등 역사적 증거로 고찰하여 보면, 명백히 일본국가에 의한 국가주도로 이루어졌다. 또한 이는 일본국가주도하에타 국가의 국권을 유린한 침략행위이며, 일본 외교공무원이 저지른 살인 범죄이며, 국가범죄테러행위이다. 국왕의 밀착경호(密着警護)와 근접보위(近接保衛)가 국가의 운명을 좌우한다는 역사적교훈 속에 을미사변을 테러학과 경호ㆍ경비학적으로 고찰하는 시론적 시도에 본 연구에작은 의의를 두고자 한다.
