This study referred to Jung’s theory on Analytical Psychology in order to understand complexes found in 󰡔SOUZOU󰡕, one of the early works written by Tanizaki Junichiro. First of all, even though 󰡔SOUZOU󰡕 is a work which every different aspect of Tanizaki’s literature is condensed into, few researches have discussed the literature but as for this study, it confirmed that 󰡔SOUZOU󰡕 is a work to deal with all these various aspects found usually in Tanizaki’s early works, and the aspects include idolatry, occidentalism, succubism and others. The extreme complex aspect of a hero in the work originates from how inferior he feels to his appearance and physical conditions and, that is regarded not only as a slice of The Shadow, an inferior character in consciousness, but also as the opposition to Persona. Add to that, along with the personal complex, the work also talks about a group complex and, the latter ends up insulting all Japanese people. As far as this study understands, all of the complexes are considered phenomenons which the hero would face when his dream life as an artist falls to pieces due to his marriage to ‘T woman’. The academic significance of the research is recognized in that this study had proved how the previously-conducted researches on Tanizaki, which were focusing on masochism and succubism, can be reviewed and re-investigated from new perspectives.

본고에서는 다니자키 준이치로(Tanizaki Junichiro)의 초기작품 중 하나인 󰡔창조󰡕(SOUZOU)에 나타난 콤플렉스 양상을 융(Jung)의 분석심리학의 이론을 통하여 고찰해 보았다. 우선 󰡔창조󰡕는 다니자키 문학의 다양한 양상들이 응축되어 있음에도 불구하고 많은 연구가 이루어지지 못한 작품이었으나, 본 연구를 통해 우성숭배사상과 서양숭배사상, 스쿠비즘(succubism) 등 다니자키의 초기문학에서 보이는 양상들이 고스란히 담긴 작품임이 입증되었다. 작품에서 보이는 주인공의 극단적인 콤플렉스 양상은 외모와 육체적인 열등감에 기인한 것으로, 이는 무의식의 열등한 인격인 그림자(The Shadow)의 단면이었으며 페르조나(Persona)의 대극양상이었다. 또한 이와 같은 개인적 콤플렉스와 함께 일본인 전체를 비하하는 집단적 콤플렉스도 나타났는데 이 모두는 ‘T녀’와의 결혼생활로 인한 예술생활을 꿈꾸었던 주인공에게 그것이 좌절되면서 나타난 현상임을 고찰하였다. 본고를 통하여 마조히즘(masochism)과 스쿠비즘 등 기존의 다니자키 연구가 콤플렉스라는 새로운 관점에서 재조명 될 수 있는 가능성을 확인하였다는 데 의의가 있다 하겠다.
