Faction has established itself as one stream of Korean novels in 2000s. It means that 'dismantling of the boundary between fantasy and reality' has begun. Kim Hoon is not only one of the precursors to the popularization of factions but also created another faction boom through “Namhansanseong(Namhan mountain fortress)”. This study aims to explore the cause of a faction boom through the narrative techniques of “Namhansanseong”. The most prominent narrative technique is obtaining objectivity and diversity through a complex-multi point of view. A complex point of view which has several narrators and a multi/multi-dimensional point of view which has several decision-subjects and narration-subjects are applied as necessary. A narrator 'who narrates other's story neutrally' is utilized to bring up diverse voices and situations of other characters in different stances, and to present the story in three dimensions. This is a revelation of writer's intention through the narrative technique. Next, simple and leaping sentences are used to attract readers' participation. The readers read over these omitting and hiding sentences at a slow pace and get to participate in the story extensively. Also, intended long sentences draw their attention to focus upon. This technique reminding of a sequence shot in movies or a rap is also a strategy to increase readers' participation. Lastly, a narrative technique of popular culture is utilized to secure popularity. Not only a camera-eye, a sequence shot, and a montage technique in a genre of movies are used, but also scenario narrative sentences appear. A listing technique reminding of pansori, shamanic songs, or rap is used as well. It seems that these are strategies to gain popularity by utilizing technics of popular culture as narrative technics.

팩션이 2000년대 우리 소설의 한 줄기로 자리매김하고 있다. ‘환상과 현실의 경계 해체’가 본격화된 것이다. 김훈은 팩션의 대중화를 선도한 사람 중의 한 사람일 뿐만 아니라 󰡔남한산성󰡕을 통해 또 한 번 팩션 붐을 일으키기도 했다. 이 논문에서는 󰡔남한산성󰡕의 독특한 서술기법을 고찰하려 한다. 이 텍스트의 다양 한 서술기법은 작품성과도 연결되어 있어 서술기법을 살피는 일은 텍스트의 속성을 밝히는 일이면서 대중화 요인을 밝히는 일이기도 할 것이다. 텍스트의 서술기법 중 가장 먼저 눈에 띄는 것은 복합다중시점을 통한 객관성․ 다양성․입체성의 확보다. 서술자가 여럿인 다중시점과 판단-주체와 서술-주체가 여럿인 다중/다면시점을 필요에 따라 적절하게 활용한다. ‘타인의 이야기를 중립적으로 서술’하는 서술자를 동원하여 입장이 다른 인물들의 다양한 소리와 상황을 제시하는 한편, 이야기를 입체적으로 제시한다. 이는 작가의 의도를 서술기법으로 드러낸 것이라 하겠다. 다음으로 문장 길이를 통해 독자의 참여를 유도하는 한편 텍스트의 리듬성을 강화한다. 간결·비약적인 문장으로 독자 참여를 유도한다. 전달에 초점을 맞추기보다 생략하고 감춤으로써 천천히, 생각하며 읽게 하여 독자의 참여폭을 넓힌다. 이 기법은 왕조실록 기술 방법과의 연관관계가 있어 보인다. 또한 의도적으로 장문을 구사하여 텍스트에 집중하게 한다. 영화의 시퀀스 샷을 연상시키는 이 서술기법 또한 독자의 참여를 높이려는 전략으로 볼 수 있다. 마지막으로 대중문화의 서술기법을 활용하여 대중성을 확보하고 있다. 영화의 카메라-눈(Camera-eye), 시퀀스 샷, 몽타쥬 기법을 활용함은 물론 시나리오 문장 서술기법을 구사하기도 한다. 또한 판소리나 무가(巫歌)의 기법인 열거 기법을 활용하기도 한다. 대중들에게 익숙한 대중문화의 기법들을 서술기법으로 활용하여 대중성을 높인다.
