This study is a part of the project entitled “Planning for the Society that the Youth will Face” and aims to take into account learning environments and social conditions in which young scholars’ lives and scholarship are adequately realized and enhanced. According to the survey on the changes in employment conditions in South Korea for the newly graduated doctors, the percentage of fully-employed humanities workers decreased from 56.6% in 2011 to 49.0% in 2014, and the percentage of those who earn more than 40 million won also decreased from 52.7% to 31.2%. This fact alone is enough to show that the lives of those who have doctorate degrees in the humanities are becoming more difficult. To discuss the conditions and the preparation for the type of society that young scholars will face in line with the worsening situation of employment, especially focusing on the humanities, this study analyzes a capitalist society and the lives of young scholars in that society. In that regard, the current state of the youth was examined, and was found to be unstable to such an extent that a new term “the Sampo Generation” has been coined referring to a new generation in South Korea that has given up courtship, marriage and childbirth. The cause of this situation is clarified in terms of poverty, education and inequality. It is found that social mobility, which indicates the reliability of endeavors and accomplishments, is significantly lower for the younger generation. With regard to social justice and the mission of scholars, an analysis is made by means of dividing their lifestyles into active and contemplative forms of life. The present study also strongly emphasizes the importance of the mission of scholars as professionals, their interests and a sense of challenge in a new academic field. Lastly, for the realization of planning the lives of young scholars, some personal factors, such as reading skills on authentic texts and belief in truth, are presented in conjunction with social factors, including fair procedure and the realization of distributive justice. Furthermore this study suggests the needs for the development of a new field in the humanities, such as humanities for the homeless, correctional humanities, and a character education program, as well as an organization of associations of humanities workers, such as a humanities cooperative association.

이 글은 청년들이 살아갈 사회 기획하기 프로젝트의 일환으로 소장 학자들의 삶과 학문을 기획하고 실현할 수 있는 학문 풍토와 사회 여건을 모색하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 국내 신규박사 고용 여건 변화 통계 자료에 의하면, 인문계열 상용직 취업비율은 2011년도 56.6%에서 2014년 49.0%로 감소되었으며, 연봉 4천만원이상 비율도 52.7%에서 31.2%로 감소되었다. 그만큼 인문학 박사의 연구자 생활이 어려워지고 있음을 알 수 있다. 이와 같은 고용여건의 악화상황에서 소장 학자들이 살아갈 사회의 여건과 준비사항을 인문학 분야를 중심으로 논의하기 위해, 먼저 자본주의 사회와 소장 학자의 삶을 분석하였다. 연애, 결혼, 출산을 포기하는 3포세대가 등장할 정도로 불안한 청년들의 상황을 제시하면서 그 원인을 빈곤, 교육, 불평등 문제 등으로 분석하였다. 노력과 성취에 대한 신뢰를 나타내는 사회이동성 지수가 청년층일수록 현저히 낮음을 알 수 있다. 사회정의와 학자의 사명에서는 학자적 삶의 양식을 활동적 삶과 관조적 삶으로 분석하고 전문직으로서의 학자의 사명과 새로운 학문 분야에 대한 관심과 도전의식이 중요함을 논의하였다. 마지막으로 소장 학자의 삶의 기획을 실현하기 위해서는 공정한 절차와 분배 정의 실현이 라는 사회여건과 함께 원전독해 능력과 진리에 대한 믿음과 같은 개인적 조건을 제시하였다. 아울러 인문학 협동조합의 결성과 같은 결사체의 필요성과 함께 노숙인 인문학, 교정 인문학, 인성교육 프로그램 개발과 같은 신생 인문학 분야 개척을 제시하였다.
