This article is to examine cultural aspects of the publication by local public offices in early Chosun, and the results of this sutdying are following. Firstly, the publication by public offices in Jeon-ra do in early Chosun, were prevalent with Jeon-ju being the centre of this active publication. Lots of books were also published in Nam-won, Sun-cheon, Na-ju, Gwang-ju, Geum-san, Mu-jang, Neung-seong. Secondly, in order to select the target of publications, small towns mainly published one volume edition called Dan-gwon-bon, or Baek-moon-bon, which skipped footnotes, Jeol-yak-bon, which shortened the contents, Cho-ryak-bon, which only contained the essentials and Seo-cheop-ryu which was made to be easily engraved. Thirdly, the notable feature of publications in Jeon-ra do in Early Chosun when compared with Kyeong-sang do, was that collections of literary works from Tang and Song Dynasty and Bup-cheop (a copy book printed from the works of old masters of calligraphy) were very popular. Also, when compared to Late Chosun, various types of Cheon-ja-moon (1,000 essential Chinese letters), Dae-moon-ryu, books without footnotes, and history books of various topics were published.

이 글은 조선전기 官署에서 이루어진 출판문화의 일면을 살펴보기 위하여 작성된 것으 로, 이 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 조선전기 전라도 지역 관서의 서적 간행은 전주를 중심으로 남원, 순천, 나주, 광주, 금산, 무장, 능성에서 활발히 이루어졌다. 둘째, 간행물의 대상을 선정함에 있어서 소읍의 경우 권질이 적은 단권본이나, 주석을 생략한 백문본, 내용을 줄여놓은 節略本, 요점만을 뽑아놓은 抄略本 및 간단히 판각이 가능한 서첩류를 중심으로 간행이 이루어졌다. 셋째, 조선전기 전라도 지역 간행물은 경상도에 비해 당․송 문집과 중국인 法帖의 간 행이 성행했고, 조선후기에 비해 다양한 종류의 千字文과 주석이 없는 大文類 서적 및 다양한 주제의 역사서가 간행되었다는 특징을 지닌다.
