The aim of this study is to discuss the Interpol's role against international crimes from the view of Republic of Korea. First, this study shows the history of Interpol and their main activities, then examines present condition of exchange and cooperation between S. Korea and interpol, and lastly reviews Interpol Seoul's counter-strategy against international crimes. According to the analysis results, INTERPOL SEOUL is attached to the section of foreign affairs at the National Police Agency, it is hard to solve further international cooperation and transnational crimes, and it is considered lack of specialized training, professional manpower and coworkers, who are dispatched from INTERPOL General Secretariat. Therefor, Firstly, Korea's Interpol part needs to upgrade to Interpol Section to solve global cooperation system smoothly. Secondly, an international professional education system is required for training more specialized manpower. Not only is it needed to maximize the utilization of Interpol, which is the international police cooperative agency, but also to increase consuls in charge of police and cooperator of Interpol to keep the close and quick transnational cooperative investigation system with overseas law enforcement agencies. Thirdly, the transnational crimes have become more serious and networked according to increased international exchange and the advent of information. Therefore, to deal effectively with an infiltration of transnational criminal organizations, Interpol Seoul has to develop quantitatively as well as qualitatively. To do that, it needs to recruit more investigators and dispatched manpower; currently, the dispatched investigator total is 4, and one dispatched investigator works at the Interpol General Secretariat in Lyon, France, one in Bangkok, Thailand, and two work at Interpol Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI) building in Singapore.

본 연구에서는 한국적 시각에서 국제범죄 대응을 위한 인터폴의 역할에 대해서 논의 하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 먼저, 인터폴에 대한 역사와 주요 활동에 대해 살펴보았고, 그 다음으로 한국에서의 인터폴 교류, 협력 현황을 살펴본 다음, 마지막으로 국제범죄에 대응한 한국 인터폴의 전략에 대해서 검토하고자 하였다. 분석결과, 현재 한국 인터폴은 경찰청 외사수사과 인터폴계로 되어 있어 향후 국제공조 문제를 해결하고 국제범죄에 대처하기에는 다소 한계가 있으며, 전문 인력 측면에서도 부족한 면이 많다. 뿐만 아니라 전문화 교육 실행의 미비, 인터폴 사무총국에 파견한 인터폴 협력관 부족 등도 문제로 제기된다. 따라서 먼저 한국의 인터폴 담당부서를 외사수사과 인터폴계에서 인터폴과로 격상시켜 국제공조시스템을 원만히 해결할 수 있도록 하여야 한다. 둘째, 보다 전문화된 인력양성을 위해 국제 시스템에 맞는 전문화 교육이 이루어져야 할 것이며, 뿐만 아니라 국제경찰 협력기구인 인터폴의 활용을 극대화하고, 해외 경찰주재관과 인터폴 협력관을 증원하여 주재국 법집행기관과의 긴밀하고 신속한 국제공조수사 체제를 유지하여야 할 것이다. 셋째, 국제교류의 증대와 정보통신의 발달을 기반으로 하는 지식정보화 사회의 도래로 국제범죄가 날로 심각해지고 네트워크화되어 국제범죄조직의 국내 침투 가능성이 높아지고 있는 현실에서 이에 효과적으로 대응하기 위해 우리나라 인터폴의 양적·질적 측면의 발전적 변화가 요구된다. 이를 위해 현재 인터폴 요원의 수를 늘려야할 뿐 아니라 파견인력 수도 현재 사무총국인 프랑스 리옹 1명, 태국 방콕 1명, 인터폴 제2청사 싱가폴 2명, 총 4명에서 그 수를 더 늘릴 필요가 있다.
