Educational policy sociology is an academic discipline of exploring comprehensively and systematically social actions and relationships and organizational structures and functions in education from the macro, micro, structural approaches. The research topics are included the historicity and regularity of educational policy making and implementation, the actions and patterns of educational policy change, the structural and functional change of teaching profession caused by educational policies, and the interpretations and responses of schools to educational policies. The research are done by using one or more of the macro, micro, and structural approaches. For this study, the researchers and academics need the sociological imagination in educational policies for understanding and analyzing educational realities, relationships with policy actors, the institutional and organizational conditions and contexts.

교육정책사회학은 교육정책에 의한 사회적 행위와 관계 및 그 변화의 역사성 및 규 칙성 등을 거시적․미시적․구조적 접근에서 종합적이고 체계적으로 탐구하는 분야이다. 교육정책사회학은 교육정책 형성 및 변화에 대한 역사성 및 규칙성 탐구, 교육정책 형 성과 변화에 따른 정책적 환경적 요인 및 당사자 행태와 관계 분석, 사회변화에 따른 교육정책 형성 및 변화에 대한 분석, 교육정책에 따른 교직 구조 및 생활 변화와 규칙 분석, 단위학교의 교육정책 집행 방식과 양태 등을 주제로 연구한다. 그리고 이러한 주 제는 교육정책에 직·간접적으로 영향을 미치고 있는 복잡하고 역동적인 정책환경 속 에서 일어나는 교직의 구조와 역할 및 교육구성원의 행위와 생활 양상과 변화 패턴에 대한 거시적, 미시적 및 구조적 접근을 필요로 한다. 이러한 연구를 위해서는 교육정책 에 의해 일어나는 사람들의 실제 행동, 그 행동에 참가하는 사람들과의 관계, 그러한 관계를 가능하게 하는 제도, 사람들과 제도들을 움직이게 하는 사회이념 등의 관련성 을 통합적으로 통찰하고 분석하는 교육정책에 대한 사회학적 상상력이 필요하다.
