This work is an analysis on the domestic research circumstances of clothing for the disabled, aiming to orient the continuous and active research and have an easy access to necessary information for disability clothing industry. Research method practiced the literature survey including domestic journals and 73 articles of dissertation from 1976 to December, 2014 with which the research period, theme, method, object and location were analyzed. The following are the results. First, as a research theme, clothing composition accounted for the largest portion, followed by design, survey, clothing psychology and clothing science. Second, the research about physically disabled person was overwhelming, accounting for 82.2% in disability research. However, the research for the visually disabled, mentally retarded, or auditory disabled person was limited to a certain period of year and no research has been followed up, lately. Third, in research method, the most common way appeared in the order of questionnaire survey and interview and then design development, anthropometry, and pattern development. Fourth, in gender distribution as object, 'only female' and 'both male and female' were adopted with almost same ratio considered. And yet, in terms of detailed age distribution, adult female was the most highly surveyed group in frequency. Fifth, in location of research, the type of one certain single place formed a large majority. Particularly, researched places fell excessively on Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. This work confirmed several findings that there were many ways of disability clothing research performed domestically in its theme, method, object and such. However, the research was overly concentrated on certain types of disability, topics, methods, objects, or places. Therefore, it would be necessary that the ongoing clothing research for the handicapped should be followed up with a multilateral approach from all the realms of clothing science in systematic and active manners.

본 연구는 장애인 의복 분야의 국내 연구 동향을 분석한 것으로, 장애인 의복 관련 연구를 위한 발전적 방향 제시와 연구 활성화를 도모하고 관련 산업에 필요한 정보를 제공하는데 목적을 두었다. 연구방법은 문헌 조사 방법이며, 1976년부터 2014년 12월까지 발표된 국내 학술지 및 학위논문 총 73편을 대상으로 연구 시기, 주제, 방법, 대상, 지역 등을 분석하였다. 연구 결과 첫째, 연구 주제는 의복구성이 가장 큰 비중을 차지하였고, 디자인, 실태조사, 의상심리, 피복과학 순으로 나타났다. 둘째, 지체장애인을 대상으로 한 연구가 82.2%로 압도적이었으며, 연구 시기 역시 지체장애인 대상 연구는 모든 연대에 걸쳐 꾸준히 연구되었으나, 시각 장애인, 정신지체나 청각장애인을 대상으로 한 연구는 특정 연대에 국한되었고 최근 이루어지지 않았다. 셋째, 연구방법은 설문 및 면접법이 가장 많았고, 디자인 개발, 인체측정, 패턴개발의 순으로 나타났다. 넷째, 성별 분포는 여성, 남녀 모두를 대상으로 한 경우가 동일하게 가장 많은 비중을 차지한 것으로 나타났으나, 연령층으로 세부 구분하면 성인 여성 대상이 가장 높았다. 다섯째, 연구 대상 지역은 특정 1개 지역을 대상으로 한 연구가 가장 많았고, 특히 서울과 경기지역을 대상으로 한 연구에 편중된 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 결과를 통해 장애인 의복 관련 국내 연구가 다양한 연구 주제와 방법, 대상 등으로 진행되었음을 확인할 수 있었다. 그러나 특정 장애 유형이나 연구 주제, 방법, 대상, 지역에 편중된 연구가 이루어져 앞으로 장애인 의복 관련 연구가 의류학 전 영역에서 다각적인 접근을 통해 체계적이고 활발한 연구가 필요할 것으로 사료된다.
