This study aims to reason out specific educational content elements of constitution education in elementary social studies and then, on the basis of that, analyze content in elementary social studies until now. This study focuses on offering a direction in developing and organizing contents for teaching constitution in elementary social studies. The results of the analysis demonstrated that the part related to the history of the constitution has been presented fragmentarily and confined to transferring dictionary definition of the principles of the constitution. Also fundamental rights have been mostly about their various kinds and lexical meanings and governance structure has concentrated on their role and power. Therefore, in the future it is necessary that the history of the constitution, principles of the constitution, fundamental rights and governance structure be presented in a balanced way when organizing contents regarding constitution education and that they focus on each of the content's significance and value, instead of simply enumerating the contents. At the same time, there is a need for integrated educational contents which provide specific examples rather than fragmentary statements so that students can equip themselves with problem-solving skills as well as consitutional knowledge, and thus can live up to the principles and values of the constitution.

본 연구는 헌법교육에서 다루어야 할 구체적인 교육 내용 요소를 도출하고 이를 토대로 이제까지의 초등학교 사회과 교과에 제시된 헌법교육 내용을 분석하여 앞으로 초등학교 사회과 헌법교육 내용 구 성에 있어 방향을 제시하는 데 주안점을 두었다. 분석 결과 헌법 역사와 관련된 부분이 단편적으로 제시되어 있으며, 헌법의 기본원리에 대한 사전적 의미 전달에 한정되어 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 기본권에 대한 내용은 기본권의 종류와 의미에 대한 해석이 주를 이루고 있었으며, 통치기관에 대한 내용은 국가기관의 역할과 권한에 치중되어 있음을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 앞으로 초등학교 사회과 헌 법교육에 대한 내용 구성에 있어 헌법 역사, 헌법의 기본원리, 기본권, 통치구조에 대한 균형 있는 학 습 내용이 제시될 필요가 있으며, 단순 나열식의 설명적 서술에서 벗어나 각각의 내용이 가지고 있는 의의와 가치에 중점을 둔 내용이 제시될 필요가 있다. 또한 단편적 사실 진술에서 벗어나 구체적인 사례를 통한 헌법과 관련된 학습 내용과 헌법적 지식뿐만 아니라 헌법적 문제 해결력과 헌법의 정신과 가치를 실천할 수 있는 학습 내용이 통합적으로 구성되어야 할 것이다.
