The aims of this paper is to discuss a couple of methodoloies for the description of Korean Language History based on the manuscript in Korean Alphabets, especially in Late Modern Korean periods. In chapter 2, the author reviewed methodological problems in using manuscripts for the description of Korean Language History. In chapter 3, the author classified the munuscripts material into 14 categories and summarized the characteristics of the Journals, travel essays in Korean Alphabets, manuscripts of Catholic church in Korean, a historical storys in Korean. In chapter 4, the author concluded that it is possible and necessary to describe the history of Korean Language purely based on manuscripts and discussed methodologies how to achieve it.

이 글은 후기 근대국어 시기의 한글 필사 자료를 활용한 국어사 연구에서 제기되는 문제들을 정리하고 한글 필사 자료만을 이용한 국어사 연구를 위한 방법론을 모색하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 2장에서는 필사자료를 바탕으로 한 국어사적 연구에서 고려해야 할 방법론적 문제를 정리하고, 3장에서는 후기 근대국어 시기의 필사 자료를 내용상의 특징을 바탕으로 유형을 가르고 그 중에서 실기류, 연행록류, 종교서류, 필기류를 중심으로 각 유형별로 자료의 특성을 기술하였다. 4장에서는 한글 필사 자료만을 자료로 한 국어사 기술의 가능성을 논의하였다.
