The importance of conducting international comparisons on data from aging studies has been increasing with population aging throughout the world. Many of the existing international studies have used the methods of comparing data gathered in different countries by using questionnaires and scales developed in one country and translated into another language. This study intends to conduct cross-cultural research in a way that researchers from several different countries participating in this study exchange the results of their own study based on the same research protocol with a common theme and concept and examine them together. We believe that by utilizing these methods, we will be able to compare the characteristics of each country and commonality between these different countries. Researchers from six countries, including Japan, Korea, China, USA, Turkey, and Germany, will be participating in this study. Currently, we are conducting a pilot study in Japan with a theme of “health” on a sample of the young-old who are between 65 and 74 years old. We will create a protocol for the researchers, indicating the study procedure and qualitative and quantitative data gathering methods, based on the results of the pilot study, and proceed with the study.
