As the number of people using smart-phones and the Internet hasincreased substantially, cyberbullying as a research topic has been gainingpopularity. However, cyberbullying is not been extensively studiedin the field of communication studies. Moreover, existing definitions oncyberbullying are confusing, particularly after terms such as cyberbullyingand cyber ostracism have begun to be used in the Korean language. In this study, therefore, we analyze 40 journals on cyberbullying publishedin the last five years in Korea, and provide suggestions for futureresearch in the field of communication studies. The analysis revealedthat cyberbullying is most often studied in the fields of education relatingto adolescent school violence, police administration, communications,and social welfare science, in that order. The survey method ismost popular for finding facts on cyberbullying. We suggest that diversemethods that include the qualitative aspects be considered in order to examinemore complicated relations among persons concerned. We alsosuggest that cyberbullying in other demographic categories(eg. conflictsbetween adults in cyberspace) be studied and analysis of discourse regardingcyberbullying be tried. For youth involved in cyberbullying,media education for smart literacy is required.

인터넷, 스마트폰 등 정보통신기기의 사용이 급증하면서 사이버불링에 관한 학계의 관심이 커지고 있는 가운데 상대적으로 커뮤니케이션학계에서는 이에 관한 연구가 많지 않다. 각학계에 사이버불링이란 용어가 쓰이기 시작한 2010년 이후 지금까지도 사이버따돌림, 사이버일탈, 사이버왕따 등의 여러 가지 용어들이 혼용되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 사이버불링에관한 최근 5년간 논문 총 40편을 중심으로 국내 연구동향을 분석하여 사이버불링의 개념을정리하고 커뮤니케이션학계의 향후 연구 과제를 제언하고자 했다. 분석결과, 사이버불링은청소년들의 학교폭력과 연관되어 교육학계에서 가장 활발히 연구되었고 규제 차원 및 법제적논의를 위한 경찰행정학계 및 법학계의 관심이 많았다. 실태조사를 위한 서베이 방법론이 주를 이루고 있으나 향후에는 사이버불링 관련 경험자들을 대상으로 학교·가정에서의 커뮤니케이션 구조 문제, 교우관계, 사회문화적 차원의 소외문제 등을 파악하기 위한 질적 방법론의보완이 요구된다. 또한 장기적으로 불링 및 사이버불링 관련 스마트 리터러시 교육과 함께 폭력문화에 저항하고 인권의식을 성장시킬 수 있는 근본적 교육 및 홍보가 필요하다고 본다.
