This study has examined the reason of the Usanguk conquest as well as the reign of Shilla over Usanguk after Usanguk submitted to Shilla. Shilla prepared for a long time to conquest Usanguk, the political organization that had developed independently. As such, the reason Shilla conquered Usanguk is because King Jijeung built an independent perspective of the world through political reform that was different from former times. Also, the economical aspect of Usanguk was also said to be another reason for the conquest. The most representative of it is known to be Gajieopi (Haepyopi or Baneopi) (sealskin). Shilla's conquest over Usanguk was closely related to Shilla's advance to the area of Siljik or Haseula. Also, Shilla's reign over this area after Usanguk's submission to Shilla was indivisibly related to Shilla's domination of Shiljik or Haseula area. Shilla took control of Shiljik or Haseula earlier on and this continued after the unification as well. However, the area of Shiljik (Haseula), and Myeongju were dominated partly by Kim Ju-won and his descendants in the Late Shilla era. After the submission to Shilla, Usanuk offered local products to Shilla while exerting its right of autonomy. This is also shown in the relationship between Shilla and Tamra (currently Jeju Is.). However Usanguk submitted to Goryeo before the collapse of Shilla, and this was linked to the political change in Myeongju area. Therefore, this shows not only that Usanguk had a close relationship with Myeonju area, but also that the control of Shilla did not reach to Usanguk.

본 논문에서는 신라가 우산국을 정벌한 이유와 우산국이 신라에 歸服한 이후 신라의 우산국 통치에 대해 살펴보았다. 신라는 독자적으로 발전해 온 정치체인 우산국을 정벌하기 위해 오랜 기간 준비하였다. 이와 같이 신라가 우산국을 정벌 한 이유는 지증왕이 그 전 시기와는 다른 지배체제 정비를 통해 독자적인 세계관 을 구축하였기 때문이었다. 그리고 우산국이 지니고 있는 경제적인 측면 역시 정 벌 이유의 하나였다. 이 중 대표적인 것이 가지어피≒해표피=반어피라고 하였다. 이와 같은 신라의 우산국 정벌은 신라의 실직․하슬라 지역에 대한 진출과 밀접한 관련을 가지고 있었다. 그리고 우산국이 신라에 귀복한 이후 이 지역에 대한 신라 의 통치 역시 실직․하슬라 지역 지배와 불가분의 관계에 있었다. 신라는 일찍부터 실직․하슬라 지역을 지배하였고 통일 이후에도 마찬가지였다. 하지만 실직․하슬라, 명주 지역은 신라 하대 김주원과 그 후손에 의해 일정 정도 지배되었다. 우산국은 신라에 귀복된 이후 자치권을 행사하면서 신라에 토산물을 바쳤다. 이것 은 신라와 탐라와의 관계에서도 알 수 있었다. 하지만 우산국은 신라 멸망 전에 고려에 귀복하였는데, 이것은 명주 지역의 정세 변동과 연동한 것이었다. 따라서 신라 하대 어느 시기부터 우산국은 명주지역과 밀접한 관련을 가지고 있었고 신 라의 통치력은 우산국에 미치지 못하였다고 하였다.
